Passaic County Freeholder Director Elease Evans seems to be headed to the State Assembly -- by now, it's no secret that she is Democratic County Chairman John Currie's choice to take the 35th district seat held until Monday by Alfred Steele. Now the big question seems to be about her Freeholder seat.
Currie's preference, it seems, is for Evans to remain in both jobs. She is a team player -- perhaps the Freeholder most loyal to the organization (as opposed to Freeholders who are closer to Congressman Bill Pascrell or Sheriff Gerald Speziale) -- and Currie doesn't want to lose her at the Hall of Records. But dual officeholding isn't fashionable these days, and Currie has a history of opposing it: he forced Peter Eagler to choose between Freeholder and Assemblyman (he wound up losing both -- that's a different story), and almost dumped Freeholder Pat Lepore because he wouldn't give up serving as West Paterson Mayor.

isn't Currie quitting soon?
I thought Currie was on the way out? If those rumors are true, then you'd have to think Pascrell and Speziale will try to push for one of their own cronies.
Is it strange, but
how many counties have the Sheriff running things? Maybe Passaic should adopt a County Executive form of government.
I think this a good way to get Stampone on board...
If Stampone gets Elease's Freeholder seat, that means both parties are happy. Plus with another African-American female freeholder in Tahesha Way, Stampone can receive the Freeholder seat.
Kazmark for Mayor?
If Currie bans dual officeholding that means they need a new Freeholder to replace Evans and a new Mayor in WP to replace Lepore. Is Mayor Kazmark coming soon???
Oh jeez
That would be quite interesting considering i hear some Passaic Dems aren't jumping up and down for Kazmark, especially since he is so close to Ferriero I think Rita Pascrell gets it in WP if Lepore leaves, or possibly it goes back to the GOP.
