DeCROCE CALLS ON CORZINE TO FORSAKE HIS ‘RSVP’ REQUIREMENT TO ATTEND TOLL HIKE MEETINGS

‘IS THE GOVERNOR SERIOUS ABOUT TURNING PEOPLE AWAY?’

Assembly Republican Leader Alex DeCroce said it is outrageous that Governor Jon Corzine is insisting people who want to attend upcoming “town meetings” regarding his plan to hike tolls and state debt must go to the Internet and sign up in advance.

“This is an excellent strategy – if your goal is to discourage residents from voicing their discontent with Corzine’s monetization scheme in person,” asserted DeCroce, R-Morris and Passaic. “I can’t think of a single governor in the history of New Jersey that required taxpayers to ask for permission to attend a town hall meeting. Corzine is going to be a guest in their towns. He should act like one.”

DeCroce said Corzine’s message to taxpayers appearing on the official state website states “you must RSVP” to attend an upcoming town meeting. The link isn’t featured on the site’s homepage and is difficult to find if you don’t know where to go. The registration form asks potential attendees to provide considerable information about themselves, including their place of employment.

“Is the governor seriously considering turning people away who don’t register?” DeCroce asked. “This isn’t the former Soviet Union. The idea of mandatory registration and pre-screening of attendees is abhorrent. Corzine should drop this requirement immediately.”
