Dems want 14th for public financing, GOP wants 12th

Assembly Speaker Joseph Roberts and Senate President Richard Codey have agreed to pick the 14th district as the "split" Clean Elections district, according to sources close to both legislative leaders.

But Assembly Minority Leader Alex DeCroce and Senate Minority Leader Leonard Lance have asked to have the 12th district picked for the public financing program.

In the event of a deadlock, the legislative leaders will name a former Governor as the tiebreaker.

In the 14th district, Bill Baroni, a Republican running for the State Senate, and Linda Greenstein, a Democrat, were both sponsors of the Clean Elections legislation and served on the New Jersey Citizens' Clean Election Commission. Baroni faces state Rate Counsel Seema Singh. Greenstein and a yet to be determined running mate will oppose Hamilton Councilman Tom Goodwin and former Jamesburg Councilman Adam Bushman.

Democratic State Sen. Ellen Karcher faces GOP Assemblywoman Jennifer Beck for the Senate. Democratic Assemblyman Michael Panter and businesswoman Amy Mallett are opposed by Republicans Declan O'Scanlon, a Little Silver Councilman, and attorney Caroline Casagrande.

Democratic and Republican legislative leaders will each designate one additional district they control to be part of the Clean Elections program.
