DiLascio was for Guarino before he was against him

One of the reasons Lyndhurst Mayor Richard DiLascio gave for switching parties was the nomination of Mike Guarino for State Senate in the 36th district. That wasn't the first time DiLascio crossed party lines because of Guarino: he did it in 1999, when he endorsed Guarino, who was the Democratic candidate for Bergen County Freeholder.

Correction.

Guarino was the Democratic nominee for freeholder in 1995 and 1996.

In 1995 he ran with New Milford Councilman Bob Nesoff and John Hogan, then a former Northvale mayor and councilman.

Guarino ran again in 1996 with Hogan and lost by less than 1,000 votes to former Bergen County Freeholder Anthony Cassano of Leonia.

A recount was conducted anb Guarino lost by 500 votes.

DiLascio did in fact promote and support Mike Guarino's candidacy as a trustee to the Lyndhurst Board of Education who at the time was the board's attorney.

It's no secret DiLascio controlled that nine-member board for years for in which he received hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees.
