TODD CALIGUIRE FOR STATE SENATEJOSEPH SCHWEIGHARDT FOR STATE ASSEMBLY
JOHN GINTY FOR STATE ASSEMBLY
Â
RIDGEWOOD – The District 40 “Reagan Republican Team is proud to announce the candidacies of state senate candidate Todd Caliguire and assembly candidates Joseph Schweighardt and John Ginty in the upcoming Republican primary election.
Â
“Our team will wage a spirited campaign based on facts and issues -- a campaign grounded in truths and conservative principles.
Â
“Without doubt, the Whitman Republicans will level personal attacks. Liberal Republicans always do in primaries because, as the Democrats, they lack solid ideas to run on. They are wrong on the issues and they know it.
“We look forward to presenting our platform as we compare and contrast our conservative principles with their liberal positions,â€? Caliguire said.Â
“We must once again become the party of the great Ronald Reagan and not of Whitman, because that is who we are. We are not the party of Whitman and we have to stop acting as if we are. We need to have the courage to wage principled campaigns that offer voters a contrast to the current failed policies of both Democrats and our liberal Republican opponents. We need to remind our opponents that government works for the taxpayer, not the other way around, Schweighardt said.
Â
“We need to return to our conservative roots. By imitating Democrats we have witnessed our once great party lose by larger and larger margins with each passing election. Regrettably, the Republicans in Trenton have come to stand for nothing. This campaign will be about returning our party to its conservative roots, added Ginty.
Â
Todd Caliguire graduated from Princeton University with a degree in engineering in 1977. He received a law degree and MBA from New York University in 1981. In 1982, he was appointed as assistant legal counsel to New Jersey Governor Tom Kean, and later became Counselor to the Governor. In 1992, he was elected to the first of two three-year terms as a Freeholder in Bergen County. He refused to run for a third term to honor his commitment to term limits.Â
Â
In 2005, Todd was a candidate for the Republican nomination for Governor of New Jersey. Stating that New Jersey should elect a governor based on his ideas, he issued a series of substantive proposals to solve the most pressing problems facing New Jersey – reducing taxes, improving traffic congestion and cleaning up the ethical mess in Trenton. His campaign received high praise from editorial writers from across the state. Last year, he was the Republican nominee for Bergen County Executive.
