Roberts Statement on GOP Budget Proposal

ROBERTS COMMENDS GOP FOR BUDGET-CUT IDEAS,
SAYS ALL WILL BE REVIEWED

(TRENTON) - Assembly Speaker Joseph J. Roberts, Jr. today commended legislative Republicans on producing their own comprehensive list of budget alternatives and said all of the proposed reductions and restorations would be reviewed.

Roberts specifically noted that he shares the Republicans' desire to end "gimmicky" property tax rebate checks in favor of direct property tax credits.

Roberts (D-Camden) released the following statement:

"Every item on the Republicans' list deserves to be fully vetted for feasibility and potential impact on the state's long-term bottom line.

"Democrats and Republicans alike are committed to delivering a final budget that makes government at all levels more accountable and will make the state more affordable.

"No idea that potentially could help New Jersey's taxpayers will be rejected out-of-hand."
