GREENWALD STATEMENT ON COMMITTEE RELEASE
OF FISCAL YEAR 2009 STATE BUDGET
(TRENTON) - Assembly Budget Committee Chairman Louis D. Greenwald today said that while it is not perfect, the Fiscal Year 2009 state budget released by the panel this afternoon marks a turning point that will move New Jersey in the right direction.
Following the committee's 7-4-1 vote to release the budget (A-2800), Greenwald released the following statement:
"The investments being made in this budget will ensure that kids will be able to afford college, the uninsured will have access to quality health care, and that property taxpayers will be able to stay in their homes.
"Certainly, all of us would have liked to see more money set aside for any number of worthy programs.
"The taxpayers of New Jersey want government to live within its means, even if it results in some pain. We must respect their wishes.
"Few will say that this budget is perfect, but during six hours of testimony yesterday the public said it moves New Jersey in the right direction."
