Alfred Doblin, the editorial page editor and columnist for The Record, was offended by former U.S. Sen. Bob Torricelli's PolitickerNJ.com Op-Ed that sharply criticized his newspaper.
"Being lectured on meanness by the likes of Bob Torricelli is akin to Amy Winehouse leading a rehab retreat for substance abusers," Doblin wrote. CLICK HERE TO READ DOBLIN'S COLUMN

Well
Here is where I can defend Torch...Torch is correct that the Record is on its last legs...all newspapers esp smalltime ones are.
Immature
Doblin's scoop to this level only validates Torricelli. Sometimes ignoring something, which is true, makes it less controversial.
It is hard to argue that newspapers have sunk to new lows just to sell papers. Is Doblin actually defending the same paper that got sucked in to covering a pointless divorce trial between the McGreevey's and is recently writing about the personal exploits of Alex Rodriguez and Madonna.
TORCH...
Whether you like him or not, Torricelli is still relevant in Democratic politics today. His point regarding The Record was well made; Doblin's response only emboldens Torch's point: The Record is slipping. Match, set, point...Torricelli.
The Torch got torched!
The Torch should have stayed on his farm instead of spilling his beans here. Who cares about his beans anyway?
Torricelli is a joke.
The Record's coverage of government and politics may have changed, but The Record never had an elected officialas big as Torricelli that had to resign in disgrace.
Torricelli has had a host a "close calls" such as the Boy Scout saga, questionable stock investments and other PR blunders that were exposed by Record reporters.
Torricelli believes that because he's a liberal and The Record is liberal leaning, he should have gotten a free pass as it applied to these practices as an elected official.
The Record can walk away with it's dignity, but Doblin was just stupid for responding. The greater insult would have been to ignore those who thrive on press.
Vote Column - All the way!
Close Calls
Those "close calls" were nothing more than sensationalized news stories in the midst of elections.
"Resigned in disgrace" - Sometimes people have to give up because a series of phony news stories trumped by opponents are just too hard to overcome.
I am sure the US Attorney would have loved to indict and convict Torricelli. He had nothing. The fact that he had nothing vindicates Torricelli. I NEVER voted for Torricelli but his fall from grace is an example of newspapers like The Record buying into the rhetoric of political opponents which in reality, has no substance.
I am sure Doblin will use his "respecable" staff to cover impotant issues like the A-Rod marriage saga. How will this idiot defend his newspaper to that.
Say What?
Wasn't Al Doblin the boob that actually lauded Sammy Rivera as a modern-day Jean Valjean during the latter's run for Passaic City Mayor? What a tool!
