Poll: Obama has 14 point lead in N.J.
By EditorBarack Obama leads John McCain by a 48%-34% margin in New Jersey, according to a Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey poll released this morning. Without leaners, Obama leads 42%-28%. Among likely voters, Obama leads 50%-36%, including leaners.
“It appears that the one area where McCain may be able to gain traction in New Jersey is if he can make the campaign a referendum on Obama’s personal judgment,” said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute. “At this time, though, that appears to be a slim hope. Everything else on the electoral horizon benefits the Democrat.”

No Grass Roots Campaign
Mc Cain has no grass roots campaign in NJ. The idea that he can come to NJ and ignore the local party machines is a huge mistake. He needs to win Bergen County by a large margin to win the state.

Obama will be hurt in NJ.
Obama has been acting as if he was the President of the USA already. This will hurt him back at home, where people do not take likely disrespect for the President. I am not sure if this elbow rubbing with kings, Arab sheiks will help Obama at all. After all, President Bush does it all the time. Just remeber his dance with swords in Saudi Arabia. I think it was a mistake on part of Obama to disrespect our military as well in declaring his policy on Iraqi withdrawal of the troops. However, the media infatuation with Obama continues unabated. It is amazing what is going on. It will blow up in Obama's face big time soon. People just get tired of this kind of reporting. On top of this, the Obama campaign in NJ has been dominated by Clintonites and corrupt bosses. Just wait and see when this gets down to NJ voters. Too bad that Obama does not have time to take care of his campaign at home instead of pretending to be the President abroad.
McCain's policies
If one looks at McCain's policies -- an open-ended commitment to keeping troops in Iraq, reversing Roe v. Wade, drilling off of the N.J. coast for a few cents off the dollar years from now, assisting the wealthy with tax breaks for the rich (though that admittedly would help some in the state), eliminating personal projects for states outside of the Fiscal Budget per se (that's how we recoup federal $ in N.J.), promoting the interests of industry over environmental preservation, and so forth -- it's a wonder that he has any traction whatsoever in N.J., since his views are contradistinction to the majority's views in N.J.
After Clinton's win in the Dem primary in February, and after it was apparent that Obama would be the Dem nominee, N.J. has become Obama-land, and I only see his influence and standing in the state growing from this point on.
Polling Methodology
Looks like there is a problem with the sample. Dems are overrepresented relative to NJ registration or likely D voters.

For better or worse the folks will vote their pocket books this year. I agree with Broy if Mc Cain ignores the locals in South Bergen County its over. The Obama media hype can simply cover up he serious cracks in Obamas economic policy by focusing on mob hysteria and the frivolous chanting of the word change.

The polling is flawed.
Obama doesn't have that kind of lead. Only an outright moron would believe he has an 18-point lead in a state where no Democrat has received 55% since Florio in 1989.
