Epps joins endanged list (if he wasn't already there)
By Wally EdgeHudson County Democrats are becoming increasingly hesitant to support the re-election of Assemblyman Charles Epps next year -- especially after a Jersey Journal report that Epps, the Jersey City Superintendent of Schools, has put four of his school district employees on the legislative payroll -- "further blurring the lines between his two public roles." Epps took some heat last Spring after reports of lavish spending on a taxpayer-paid trip to London, including a $500-per-night hotel room.
Three other Hudson legislators are in danger of losing party support for re-election in 2007: Senate Majority Leader Bernard Kenny, who is also the Hudson County Democratic Chairman; State Senator Joseph Doria, who just narrowly survived a re-election battle for Mayor of Bayonne last June; and Assemblywoman Joan Quigley.
