TRENTON — The New Jersey Republican chairman Monday demanded Gov. Jon S. Corzine detail what materials he gave a special ethics panel that decided e-mails between the governor and a state workers union leader the governor once dated did not influence state contract talks. Going after Evans’ people
ATLANTIC CITY - A week after Mayor Scott Evans lost the Democratic primary for his seat, City Council is targeting his top employee.

Council intends to consider a resolution Wednesday to declare no confidence in Business Administrator Carol Fredericks, accusing her of being dishonest and disrespectful to the legislative body. (Michael Clark, Press of Atlantic City)

Obama has the early lead
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama leads Republican John McCain in New Jersey while the race between incumbent U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) and the GOP's Dick Zimmer is a virtual tie, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll released yesterday.

The poll found 48 percent of likely New Jersey voters favor Obama compared to 39 percent for McCain, with 6 percent favoring a third-party candidate and the rest undecided. (Robert Schwaneberg, Star-Ledger)

On the other side of the continental United States, more than 2,400 miles from New Jersey's 3rd Congressional District, there's a small technology company with big dreams.

NEWARK - Mayor Cory Booker lost tonight in his final shot this year to win a ward chairman in one of the city’s five wards. Booker had run district leader candidates in the other wards and they lost last Tuesday, most critically in the South Ward. (Max Pizarro, PolitickerNJ.com)

An early start
PASSAIC -- And they're off!

Despite the five months until the November election, candidates for the City Council and mayoral races have barreled through the starting gates. Roughly a dozen people have announced they're running for the seats vacated by Mayor Samuel Rivera and former Councilman Marcellus Jackson, who pleaded guilty to federal corruption charges. Another mayor in trouble
EAST GREENWICH TWP. The mayor of Swedesboro was charged with driving while intoxicated and related offenses here Friday night after being stopped by police on Kings Highway.

Thomas Fromm, 52, was pulled over at 9:05 p.m. after authorities received a citizen's phone call alleging a car "driving erratically," police said Monday. (Pete McCarthy, Gloucester County Times)
