(TOMS RIVER, May 14) – Third District Republican candidate for Congress – Freeholder Jack Kelly – today called on Chris Myers to explain why he has not signed the Earmark Reform Pledge put forward by the non-partisan, non-profit organization, Citizens Against Government Waste. Freeholder Kelly issued the following statement:
“The American public has spoken and they want Congress to be more transparent and honest when it comes to spending tax payer dollars. The current Congress has record low approval ratings because they have allowed special interest groups and their money to control the agenda in Washington DC.
Today I am calling on Chris Myers to explain why he won’t allow himself to be held accountable to the residents of the Third District when it comes to earmarks and pork barrel spending. Chris is very quick to tout his experience at Lockheed Martin, but refrains from talking about the billions of dollars they have received in earmarks from tax payer dollars. In fact, in 2007, his employer received 84% of its revenue from sales to the United States government and 13% from foreign governments.
The residents of the Third Congressional District deserve to know if Chris is going to stand with them when it comes to government waste or with his corporate buddies who have been getting rich off the corrupt and broken system in Washington DC. Chris Myers often says that he wants to change the way things are done in Washington. I say Chris Myers can’t change Washington because he IS Washington.”
Freeholder Kelly signed the pledge on April 8, 2008. As of 4:00 pm on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, Chris Myers did not sign the pledge according to Citizens Against Government Waste.
