Press Release

Kelly Consultant Says Chris Myers should put up or shut up … and no Clintonesque “it depends on what is, is”

Release Date: May 15 2008

Kelly campaign consultant David Murray responded to today’s Myers’ campaign press release as follows:

“The only thing Chris Myers seems to be able to do better than give out special interest money in Washington and get billions of dollars in U.S. government contracts is to whine about anything the facts won’t allow him to script himself in this campaign for Congress.

Myers whines when his attempts to cover up his 58% Medford property tax hikes are exposed by The Press of Atlantic City. He whines after he himself is caught on videotape talking about his involvement in what many regard as corrupting pay-to-play practices in Washington. And now Chris Myers is whining about a fair and factual reprint of a letter that exposes his lies about Jack Kelly’s work at the SJTA.

Myers’ most recent claims that a Kelly for Congress mailer, including a re-print of a letter from James Crawford, a former SJTA executive director, was intended to deceive voters should be taken for what it is: TODAY’S WHINING.

The real problem Chris Myers has is that Jim Crawford’s letter made a lie of many of Myers’ unsubstantiated contentions.

We rebut Myers claims on point:

1. The letter was not passed off as APP editorial opinion. The letter – reprinted in its entirety - clearly bears the word “Commentary” as it appeared in the May 7 issue of the APP, not Editorial or Opinion as Myers claims.

2. The article appears directly under the headline written by the APP “Freeholder filled a real need as manager at airport authority.”

3. The letter clearly indicates that its author is James A. Crawford who, in the letter, clearly identifies himself as a former executive director of SJTA (3rd paragraph; 2nd sentence).

4. The Crawford letter clearly “sets the record straight” in that it offers direct and expert rebuttal to Myers’ charges against Kelly and to certain content in the APP’s editorial. As such, the APP chose to print the letter.

Myers, in his press release, goes on to charge that Kelly is lying or distorting his (Myers’) record on taxes and role at Lockheed Martin.

Is that so?”

1. The mailer says Myers raised property taxes 54%. That’s a fact, unless you agree with The Press of Atlantic City that Myers raised taxes 58%.

2. The mailer says Myers missed 25% of his 2006-2007 Medford Council meetings. He did and Medford Council minutes prove it.

3. The mailer says Myers gave Frank Lautenberg a $500 personal campaign contribution. Even Myers has to admit to that one, but offers a lame excuse as to why he did it.

4. The mailer says Myers and his company give campaign money to members of Congress and lobby them for government contracts. Myers, Vice-President for New Business Acquisition/Development, says he helps lobbyists “talk to lots of folks in Washington”. He says it’s part of his job to dole out campaign money. After all, Myers IS VP, of New Business Acquisition/Development.

What is false or misleading here?

Since he whines and evades and complains and charges and accuses daily, Chris Myers has an obligation to answer for himself. He should put up or shut up. And he shouldn’t, like Bill Clinton, tell us that it all depends on ‘what is, is.’”
