Washington Twp – 4th District Assembly Candidate Agnes Gardiner is appalled at the wording Assemblyman Moriarty uses in his Mailers concerning Environmental contaminations here in the 4th District. Assemblyman Moriarty is mailing out Political mailers on a daily basis that are misleading the public concerning his record. Moriarty’s statements in his mailers reads as if the Kiddie Kollege contamination has been taken care of and the Newfield Nuclear waste dumpsite by Sheildalloy is over. When in fact these environmental contaminations are far from over. Kiddie Kollege in Franklin Twp has been shut down but the cleanup has yet to start. The building that once housed the day care center is still standing and the mercury gases are still being released as the mercury in the ground continues to gas off and sink farther into the soil with the potential to contaminate the ground water. The dangers from this contamination are far from over, due to the fact that a neighborhood is directly behind this site, including a home right next door. To insinuate that this problem is finished is a gross mistake on anyone’s part. The shieldalloy site in Newfield is still going through the process with the NRC for its decommissioning plans for the site. In the decommissioning plan, Sheildalloy has requested that storage of their nuclear waste dumpsite remain on the premises for 1,000 years instead of having it removed. This situation is far from over and the citizens in Newfield are still fighting against a company who wants to leave an environmental mess for future generations to deal with. “Being concerned and involved in Environmental issues over the years, I find it horrifying that someone would use words to misinform the public concerning contamination. The residents of these two towns deserve to be represented by their elected officials. I will stand alongside the residents and fight with them to make sure the violators of Kiddie Kollege are held accountable for their mistakes and that Sheildalloy understands Newfield and New Jersey are not a nuclear waste dumpsite," Said Agnes Gardiner. ###
