For Gilmore, Wednesday is decision day

At exactly noon tomorrow, at the home of a retired Army Colonel, Glen D. Gilmore will announce if he will run for the State Senate or seek re-election to a third term as Mayor of Hamilton Township.

Since GOP State Sen. Peter A. Inverso made his surprise retirement announcement yesterday, Democratic Party insiders, to a man, say that party won't have a firm legislatve slate ironed out until at least the weekend.

Morris County Democratic Party Chair Richard McClellan says the party remains committed to state Rate Counsel Seema Singh, who won a party nominating convention on Saturday. But there's also some party buzz beyond the county about getting a strong, Hamilton-based candidate to go up against the Republican Senate candidate, Assemblyman Bill Baroni. Gilmore has expressed an interest in running for the State Senate in the past.

Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein says she continues to consider a Senate bid.

Run Glen Run

Well if slap happy Gilmore runs for the Senate in the 14th it will mean that the Mayor and entire council will not have run for re-election. That must be some kind of political anomily short of them all being indicted. Please run for the Senate. Baroni will have a laugher. By the time its over he'll be jumping out of another airplane without a parachute even though the last one didn't do him much good. Greenstein or Singh will be stronger candidates, but hey, McClellan has messed up easier things before. The R's are smacking their lips all the way around no matter how it goes.

tough choice

If I thought he was doing a good job in Hamilton, I'd say run for Mayor again, b/c that's a better job than State Senate....but he's really burned up all his goodwill as Mayor, and I think a change of scenery would be good.

End of Road...

Either way, Gilmore faces a tough race... not that John Bencivengo is the most formidable opponent, but if anything the people of Hamilton are more likely to cast a vote against Gilmore... the town has seen incredible growth that has been unsustained... whether or not this is directly a result of Gilmore or not remains yet to be seen, but he has done a miserable job handling a town on the verge of bursting into a city.

With respect to facing Baroni in a potential race for the open state Senate seat, Gilmore has a lot to learn and despite appearing as a "seasoned" politician, he will never connect with people the way Baroni does... on the simplest level, he lacks the charisma and charm that Baroni tends to captivate people with.

Politics is about people, not parties and ever since his move to Hamilton to run for mayor, Gilmore has been nothing more than a party puppet.
