CHIVUKULA: NJ NEEDS ROAD MAP TO BRIGHTER ENERGY FUTURE
Businesses, Consumers Should Participate in Moving State's Energy Policy into 21st Century, Says Chair of Assembly Telecom and Utilities Committee
(TRENTON) - Assemblyman Upendra J. Chivukula, chair of the Assembly Telecommunications and Utilities Committee, today said the long-awaited release of the administration's draft energy master plan is the first step to enacting a far-reaching energy strategy for the state and its energy needs through 2020.
Chivukula said he looks forward to reviewing the plan and will continue to work with legislative colleagues to advance policy and incentives that propel the state towards a future of safe, reliable, clean and sustainable energy.
Chivukula made the following statement:
"These are challenging times in light of climate change and spiraling energy costs and New Jersey must be positioned as a leader in providing reliable, clean energy.
"Business must factor the impact of its decisions on the environment and global energy supply by making responsible, disciplined investments that are environment-friendly, encourage conservation, and tap into renewable sources.
"Consumers also must make responsible choices that will benefit the environment and their pocketbooks.
"New Jersey has played a leadership role in fighting climate change and promoting the use of solar energy.
"All parties must now come together to strengthen this draft energy master plan to ensure that the final product maintains our preeminent position in enacting far-reaching and forward-looking energy policy."
