Two GOP Chairmen push U.S. Marshal for Senate seat

Add another name to the growing list of potential new candidates for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination: James Plousis, the former Cape May County Sheriff and the current United States Marshal for New Jersey. “Jim Plousis has the integrity, leadership skills, and fiscally conservative views to represent the Garden State as a U.S. Senator,” said David Von Savage, the Cape May County GOP Chairman.

"I think Jim Plousis, who would be a unique Republican candidate, deserves fair consideration along with the other candidates.  This is going to be a national security election and Plousis' background in law enforcement would certainly be a plus," said Atlantic County GOP Chairman Keith Davis. "In the days ahead, we're going to be hearing several names discussed and I think county organizations will take this nomination process seriously as we have a great opportunity to defeat Frank Lautenberg and his tired, Washingtonian ways.

State Sen. Joseph Pennacchio and college professor Murray Sabrin are the only two candidates in the race to challenge four-term Democrat Frank Lautenberg in November. Several other names have been discussed since Wednesday, when Anne Evans Estabrook announced she was withdrawing from the race following a stroke on Monday.

State Sens. Joseph Kyrillos and Christopher Bateman, former New Jersey Highway Authority Chairman Joseph Buckalew, millionaire businessman Joseph Plumeri, and U.S. Ambassador to Brazil Clifford Sobel are among the Republicans being discussed.

Plousis was named federal marhsal by President Bush in 2001. He replaced Glenn Cunningham, who returned to Jersey City and ran for Mayor.

What is going on here?

Who are these people and where they came from? I have never heard of them no less seen them. Why did they not come out earlier? After all, running the US Senate campaign is no joke, is it? If you were not decided on running six months ago, then you probably are not serious contender.

County Favorites

Wiel,

Every County Chairman has there own "special someone" they want to run so they can have one of their own in the race.

All these rich Republicans being mentioned who have donated to Chris Dodd, Bob Torricelli and ironically, even Frank Lautenberg!!!

And of course people have been suggesting outsiders from Rudy Giuliani to former New Jersey resident Al Leiter, who now lives in Florida ..

I say MARY CAREY FOR US SENATE!!:

Poor Pennacchio

It looks like he is not well liked by the NJ GOP.

The GOP has got to get behind someone soon.  US Marshals, Turnpike Chairmen, businessmen no one has heard of....

Why not stick with the Stinky Fish?

Panic has overtaken the GOP establishment

They are looking for their multimillionair candidate so the do nothing county chairs can get thier fat checks.

Its quite entertaining really. Its become very much the spectacle.

Almost as much fun as watching B. Hussein O'Bama(the irish lad)and H. Rodam Clinton sling it out.

Sit back relax and enjoy the show.

You mean the GOP has to WORK??

Are we suggesting that not only the County Chairs, but actually the County Committee people all across New Jersey might have to get up off their asses and WORK!??!?

Good, they don't deserve to be there with their slothfulness

This is why the DEms beat the Reps time and again. They are organized and have a good work ethic. We don't.

It is an outrage

the useless county committee may actually have to do some party building that might  benifit the GOP beyond the present election cycle.

They should unionize. Katz get on it!!

Doh!

These people should be embrassed. They should ether stick to Jersey Joe or just stop trying. Maybe next time GOP
