What is Best for NJ? Pursue Ethical Stem Cell Research That Is Already Providing Cures

January 17, 2006--

Marie Tasy, Executive Director of New Jersey Right to Life issued the following statement immediately following Governor Corzine’s Inauguration Speech.

“Governor Corzine pledged he would be guided by one principle: What is best for NJ. In that spirit, Governor Corzine should recognize that it is in the best interest of our state and our citizens to pursue non-embryonic stem cell research that is both ethical and already providing cures. However, it is not in the best interest of New Jersey to use our women as egg factories and clone human embryos through the fetal and newborn stages for their organs, parts and tissues. Pursuing embryonic stem cell research which has not cured one single individual would be a ‘squandering’ of dollars in violation of the public trust which Governor Corzine so clearly condemned in his speech, said Tasy.
