TRENTON - Corzine Transition Chairman Richard C. Leone declared the Office of the Governor-elect - or, the "Transition Office" - officially open for business yesterday. Leone, who earlier this month was tapped by Gov.-elect Jon S. Corzine to lead his transition efforts, also highlighted a newly-launched online resume bank for prospective applicants to the Corzine Administration.
Because of New Jersey's unique fiscal condition and the flagging public confidence in state government, Leone said the transition staff will seek out those who simultaneously work to restore the state's solvency as well as the public's confidence in their government.
"Governor-elect Corzine will take office next year in the face of daunting budgetary and operational circumstances - perhaps more challenging than any governor before him," Leone said. "His administration must marshal forward-thinking measures to address these far-reaching challenges. The only way to do that is by attracting the sharpest minds and straightest arrows we can find."
Leone said the Transition Office is ever-expanding, with core staff in place to support the Governor-elect's activities between now and Inauguration Day. He said resumes were streaming in through a variety of sources and now, with the launched website, he expected those numbers to increase considerably. Resumes received so far were for positions ranging from Cabinet-level to entry-level.
The online resume bank will allow prospective employees to apply for Administration positions through the World Wide Web. Resumes will be reviewed and evaluated by senior transition staff and recommendations for employment will be made to the transition leadership. Leone said applicants will undergo "intensive vetting" and should be prepared to serve an administration with "zero tolerance" for placing private interests above the public good.
The transition web site and resume bank are located on the World Wide Web at: www.nj.gov/govelect.
