STATEMENT OF GOVERNOR CORZINE ON HOMELAND SECURITY FUNDING
TRENTON - The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced $25.7 million in port security funding for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and $53.8 million in funding to protect transportation infrastructure in the metropolitan area.
Governor Jon S. Corzine issued the following statement:
Earlier this afternoon, I spoke with Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, who informed me that the state of New Jersey stands to receive a significant infusion of federal dollars for port and transit security. We are certainly pleased with this announcement and acknowledgement of the unique exposure faced by New Jersey and the metropolitan area. Members of our Congressional delegation should also be applauded for fighting for an equitable share of federal dollars in recognition of the principle that risk, threat and vulnerability should be the sole factors that determine homeland security funding. We have a long way to go, but this is a important step in the right direction.
