GREENWALD/ROSEN LAMPITT MAKE $75,000 CONTRIBUTION TO OPPONENTS’ CAMPAIGN

(OAKLYN) – Following through on an promise made late last week, Assemblyman Louis D. Greenwald and Pam Rosen Lampitt today made a contribution of more than $75,000 to their Republican opponents.

Greenwald and Rosen Lampitt -- New Jersey’s first and only certified Fair and Clean Elections candidates -- made the unprecedented campaign contribution to allow the public financing pilot project to continue in the Sixth Legislative District.

"By contributing to our opponents’ campaign, New Jersey will be in a better position to examine the success of Clean Elections and how it should be expanded in years to come, said Greenwald (D-Voorhees), a five-term legislator. “Proponents of Clean Elections were concerned that the experiment was over since Pam and I were the only candidates to be certified, and our opponents failed to qualify. This influx of public funds into the Republican campaign will allow this part of the test to continue.

On Oct. 6, Greenwald appeared before the N.J. Citizens’ Clean Elections Commission to announce that he and Rosen Lampitt were prepared to offer their opponents part of the public funds they received as clean candidates. To the praise of both Republican and Democratic commission members, Greenwald said the donation would be equal to the percentage of qualifying contributions the Republicans collected that were deemed acceptable by the state Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC).

Late Thursday, it was verified that ELEC has accepted as valid qualifying contributions 58 percent of the 3,000 donations Republicans Marc Fleischner and JoAnn Gurenlian needed to qualify for $130,200 in Clean Elections funding. Checks totaling $75,516 – 58 percent of $130,200 -- were provided today to the campaign of Fleischner and Gurenlian.

“As Lou and I promised, we gave our opponents a contribution that mirrors their success in the Clean Elections process, said Rosen Lampitt, a councilwoman in Cherry Hill. “The contribution will ensure that special interest money is kept out of the election, and Sixth District voters will have every opportunity to make a fully informed decision on Election Day.

Prior to receiving the donation, Fleischner and Gurenlian signed a pledge of fair campaign practices bringing them back under the umbrella of the Clean Elections law. Republican members of the Citizens’ Clean Elections Commission suggested last week during the hearing that steps be taken before the public funds were donated to ensure Fleischner and Gurenlian abide by the Clean Elections principles Greenwald and Rosen Lampitt are subject to as certified candidates.

Yeah, and the National Foolball League commissioner declared tod

Yeah, and the National Foolball League commissioner declared today, “The Philadelphia Eegles will compete in this year’s Stuper Bowl with 58% of their players, while their opponent will be permitted to field a full team. It will be 11 on 6 against the Eegles both offensively and defensively.

“In the spirit of the “fair and clean elections pilot program, we have decided that this is also fair for the league and will level the playing field.

The league has also forced the Eegles to sign a contract that specifies which plays they can run and which ones they cannot. This is called “Clean playing, and will prevent attacks that may expose the other team’s weaknesses.

Being unable to maintain his composure, the Commissioner broke out in uncontrollable laughter as he finished making his proclamation.

To his credit, Assemblyman Greenwald kept a straight face throughout.
