Greenwald Statement on State of the State Address

Release Date: Jan 8 2008

GOVERNOR'S AMBITIOUS PLAN GOOD STARTING POINT
FOR LONG-AWAITED DEBATE ON STATE'S FINANCES

(TRENTON) - Assembly Budget Committee Chairman Louis D. Greenwald (D-Camden) released the following statement regarding Governor Jon S. Corzine's State of the State address:

"Governor Corzine has unveiled a bold, long-range plan for returning New Jersey from the brink of financial ruin.

"The proposed spending freeze, cap on spending growth, and voter-approval for future borrowing all are ideas that can be immediately embraced.  We now await the fuller and finer details on the most ambitious facet of this fiscal restructuring plan.

"The Governor made it perfectly clear that criticizing for the sake of politics is not an option.  If legislators do not like the Governor's plan, then they should work day and night for the next two months to produce one of their own.

"New Jersey's residents deserve an intellectually honest debate on our state's financial future."
