Less than a week after Passaic Mayor Sammy Rivera and Councilman Marcellus Jackson were arrested on bribery charges, City Council President Gary Schaer says the Council will hire an independent special counsel to review city contracts over the last two years. Schaer says he wants to hire a lawyer with “significant experience in matters before the U.S. Attorney.”
But Schaer, a Democratic Assemblyman seeking re-election in November, stopped short of calling for Rivera, Jackson or Passaic Redevelopment Authority Chairman Jonathan Soto, a former Councilman and the GOP Municipal Chairman, to resign.
In other news, the resignation of Mims Hackett from the State Assembly creates a vacancy in the State Government Committee chairmanship. Republican Assemblyman Rick Merkt has, respectfully, asked the Assembly Speaker to pass over the Schaer, the panel Vice Chairman, because Schaer is a dual officeholder.

These three buffoons have flushed the great city down the toilet. Bob Hare, Schaer, Munk, Sarlo and Scalera MUST call on these trolls to resign.
