HIGHER GAS TAXES WRONG FOR NEW JERSEY
Runaway State Spending Must Be Cut
Senator Anthony Bucco, (R-25), reacted strongly today to published reports that the Democratic Chairman of the Assembly Transportation Committee is considering doubling the state gas tax.
“Sadly, less than a month after the election the Trenton Democrats are at it again; raising taxes on the already overburdened middle class taxpayers. Now the politicians want to double the gas tax at a time when the price of gas is more than $3 per gallon in many places.
“Six years of fiscal mismanagement have brought New Jersey to the brink of a complete financial meltdown. This is not a crisis that we can avoid with more spending and more borrowing; that’s what got us into this mess in the first place. The only way to get out of this mess is if the Trenton Democrats expend as much time and energy looking for ways to cut spending as they do looking for ways to raise taxes.”
