Holt urges Lance to seek House seat

Hunterdon County Freeholder Matthew Holt says Leonard Lance should run for Congress, and that if the Senate Minority Leader ultimately declines to run, he would consider seeking the GOP nomination.

Holt is the grandson of former U.S. Sen. Clifford Case, who served as Congressman in the 7th district from 1945 to 1953 before moving to the Senate in 1955.

Lance has expressed interest in entering the seat that became available on Monday when Mike Ferguson announced he would not seek re-election.

”Now is the time for all Republicans to rally behind a single candidate who is most well known and who has the undisputed leadership capability to unite our Republican Party for an overwhelming victory in November of 2008.  That candidate is State Senator Leonard Lance,” Holt said.  "I have had the opportunity to work with Senator Lance for many years, both as Mayor, and now as Freeholder of Hunterdon County.  His knowledge, experience, fiscal understanding, and most importantly, his record of integrity and ethics in government, make him the most highly qualified candidate to replace Congressman Ferguson.”

Holt said he was urging Lance to run and would “support his candidacy unconditionally.”

A Gentleman Congressman?

I don't know but maybe Lance will be out of place in the real rough and tumble of DC.  If Lance gets in, the Rs may clear the way.  Doughtery gets to move up to the Senate.  Holt gets assem. seat?  Kean and Bramnick (the two biggest contenders are out already). The rest of the field either are fine with their current jobs (Bateman and Biondi) or don't have the name and backing.  The only one that could cause a problem is Mennen just based on dollars alone.

I'm going back for round two with my turducken

I'll dispute it.

Putting the words "Leonard Lance" and "leadership" in the same sentence is completely ridiculous.  His "leadership" over the past four years is proof of that.

Meanwhile it says quite a bit about Holt if he thinks Lance is the kind of "leader" Republicans need.

Lance sold us out

Lance was an integral part of the Whitman distruction of the Republican Party in New Jersey. He should never be forgiven for the approval of Whitman's nominations to the New Jersey Extreme Court especially for Poritz.

He should be sent packing with Tom Wilson and just about every single Republican Senator, and about 70% of the Republican Assembly. We need Republcians to be elected.

Ferguson seat

So by selecting Leonard Lance the Republicans will concede the 7th district seat to the Dems. Wonderful! Lance represents everything that is wrong with he NJ Republiocan Party-nothing but a bunch of eunuchs that do everyting that the Dems tell them to do.
