The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law will meet on Tuesday afternoon to consider whether to subpoena former Attorney General John Ashcroft regarding a contract he was given by New Jersey U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie, according to a press release just issued by the subcommittee’s chair.
No mention was made of whether the committee will consider subpoenaing Christie, who it had also wanted to testify. Christie has said that he will testify only if asked to by Justice Department higher-ups.
Michael Torra, Chief-of-staff to Rep. Linda Sanchez [D-CA], who chairs the subcommittee, told PolitickerNJ.com yesterday that talks were ongoing with the Justice Department regarding who would testify at their hearings, and that they had decided to put off the event until they figured it out.
The meeting will take place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
