Pig Book: New Jersey ranks 43rd in pork barrel spending

$180,531,502: That’s total value of the 223 pork barrel projects secured from the federal government by New Jersey’s Congressional delegation, according to the 2008 Pig Book.

It's a small number compared to the $17.2 billion national total that Citizens Against Government Waste found in FY 2008’s 12 appropriation bills.

New Jersey ranks 43rd out of the 50 states and the District of Columbia, with $20.78 of pork per capita.

You can search the Pig Book database here, but below are some highlights from New Jersey’s elected officials in Washington.

  • Smallest project: $5,000 for the “Delaware River at Camden (Corps of Engineers: Operation and Maintenance)”
  • Largest project: $14,700,000 for the “Trans-Hudson Midtown Corridor (New Starts/Fixed Guideway)”
  • Sen. Frank Lautenberg sponsored bills worth $288.9 million
  • Sen. Robert Menendez sponsored bills worth $286.4 million

Loser again...

Lautenberg probably fell asleep during the porking...sad that NJ can't even get a fair cut of tax revenues...

CUT TAXES!

In light of this fact, why don't more of our representatives fight to lower federal taxes?
