COUNCILMAN FULOP ASKS MAYOR FOR RESIGNATION OF POLICE CHIEF CITING INCREASE IN CRIME
As crime wave continues, Chief Troy must be held accountable(JERSEY CITY) – This afternoon, Jersey City Councilman Fulop asked Mayor Jerremiah Healy to seek the resignation of Police Chief Robert Troy.
“According to published statistics, violent crime rose by more than 11 percent in the first 6 months of 2005. Last year alone, there were 39 homicides committed in Jersey City, the highest since 1982, while there were only 11 in the rest of Hudson County. This past weekend, there were at least 18 robberies and several shootings throughout the city, stated Councilman Steve Fulop.
“It is clear to me, that since assuming his post as Jersey City Police Chief, Robert Troy has led this department down the wrong direction. The result of his mismanagement has been an increase in the overall crime rate throughout the city. Residents of Jersey City are scared and I believe its time for accountability, added Fulop.
Councilman Fulop asked Mayor Healy for Troy’s resignation in an official letter that was delivered to the mayor’s office earlier this afternoon.
“Based on factual crime statistics compiled over the past year, as well as what I have witnessed myself, I have come to the conclusion that the Jersey City Police Department needs a new leader. Therefore, I have formally requested that Mayor Healy ask for the resignation of Mr. Robert Troy as Jersey City Police Chief immediately.
“In the private sector, where I come from, mediocre performance is met with a change of management, it’s as simple as that concluded Fulop.

More Grandstanding by the young inexperienced councilman Steve Fulop.
Welcome to Jersey City Politics as usual.
Young Fulop has not even lived in Jersey City more than three years before he starts telling us what's wrong with it.
What Fulop doesn't let on is that Ron Bonacore, former police chief and a Jersey City Mayoral hopeful was tossed off the ballot in Nov 04 because he didn't even live in the city, has been advising him and put the silly little councilman up to this PR stunt.
Fulop is still wet behind the ears, not even in a councilman for 8 months.
Just ask Fulop how crime has been reduced in his own ward because of the efforts of the chief and the police force.
Ask Fulop why his letter to the mayor dare not include the last paragraph from his press release.
A mere oversight. We think not.
He's grandstanding for the PR and a greater office and has someone pushing him.
I believe its time someone said something. Maybe what we need is
I believe its time someone said something. Maybe what we need is someone who is not free here to point out what is wrong. I dont know about you but I dont thing its ok to have 39 murders. The streets need to be cleaned up. I am now going to have to pay more taxes this year because the extra police that was hires last year and is going to be hired this year. Should all of us be paying more money into a system that is obviously not working. That instead of reducing muders they are increaseing. The answer is NO. COUNCILMAN FULOP is just what jersey city needs. Someone needs to be accountable.
