In 1991 Joseph Pennacchio sent then-Assembly Minority Leader Chuck Haytaian a 94-page manifesto containing what he thought were solutions to the nation's problems.
Pennacchio said in a cover letter that he had started "The Nationalist Party" to address the issues.
Now that Pennacchio wants to be the Republican candidate to take on Sen. Frank Lautenberg, the campaign of his GOP rival, Murray Sabrin, provided PolitickerNJ.com with a copy of the 1991 document.

Joseph Penn?
It appears that the good state senator changed his last name when he wrote this manifesto. Perhaps he dropped Pennachio to sound less Italian? There are lots of good ideas in here, but there's some cooky ones as well.
Cooky?
Grover, my good friend, "cooky" is not the word to describe the thoughts of a man who advocates the reversal of a decades long process of de-institutionalization funded by the selling off of 3 stealth bombers", a man who advocates work camps for the homeless, and thinks that he is toning down his assertion that criminals should wear tattoos on their foreheads but instead wear bracelets.....I could go on and on. Jersey Joe is not Cookey, he is absolutely, completely and forever unhinged.

There is some insane stuff in there.
Sending homeless people to "military" camps isn't that bad, CommonSenseNJ?! Are you out of your mind? This is straight out of 1930's Germany.
Republican Caucus Must Make Jersey Joke Step Down
This is a complete embarrassment to have this guy in the State Senate and running for US Senate. I have a feeling more than a few Republicans will be calling for him to step down.
Nationalist Party ?
What a name for a political party! I am guessing he is not familiar with the Nazi (National Socialism) party or Mussolini's National Fascist Party ?
I just finished his "manifesto" and am shocked that he ever got elected with ideas like this.
some of my favorite points:
- direct popular election of the president ? he references the arguments of the founders regarding life terms for justices and the conveniently neglects the founder's arguments for NOT having long terms for the other branches. Checks and balances, anyone ?
- i find it very interesting how fascists and other totalitarians covertly hide gun-grabbing in their platforms: "Law-abiding individuals would still be allowed to own their registered weapons." ... uhm. wow. you're a republican ? oh wait, read on. he doesnt hide it. he calls for making illegal all "deadly ammunition". so which kind of ammunition isn't deadly ? BBs ?
- i think his "Good faith Evidence" amendment would work very nicely with a strong authoritarian government.
- the idea of establishing '5 or 6 regional primaries' would work nicely with dissolving all the shreds state and local autonomy that remain
- the "better collection" of taxes and "colored money" scheme is super awesome.yes! please make the IRS MORE onerous!
- his "national health organization" sounds disturbingly like .... Socialized Medicine! oh wait, he calls it Socialized Medicine later on. at least he is forthright.
- "workfare" ? you have to love government make-work programs.
- you have to love the idea of rounding up homeless people and stuffing them into ex-military bases. i mean, its better than just throwing them in a concentration camp, right? oh wait. no its not.
- crime - "a simple cost effective idea it to put criminal "I.D." bracelets on offender's wrists. The original thought of tattooing foreheads has been toned down a bit" i don't think this one needs any comment. ok maybe one. the color-coding of criminals is a short step away from how the nazi's color-coded their undesirables. Oh that's right Nazi meant NATIONAL Socialism. Is it just me or did this guy totally rip Mein Kampf off ?
is this guy really a republican? did the democrats just run out of standing room at their convention so he had to come over to the republican party's convention ?
Downright Scary
I cant even believe anyone could embrace this kind of costly big-brother fascism. Joe please go before you embarass everyone more.
Jersey Joe is Nuts!
That he could still be considered a viable candidate after this is absurd. Sabrin has build his campaign on limited government, the Constitution, and private property. If the GOP wants to be a party of Nanny State Nationalism, then they should vote for Pennacchio. Anyone wanting the Party to remain committed to Reagan's principles should support Sabrin.
Insanity at it's best...
I am outraged by this absurd "manifesto". I don't care if the man has come full circle with what he believes in or not. The irresponsibility shown in his writings and his lack of concern over the issue today should be an indication of Who this "Jersey Joe" person really is. I'm not even sure if he's even a person anymore.
I do not care the least for his ideas on how to treat the homeless, the mentally ill, or our beloved seniors. Actually, I don't care for any of it. When did you sell your soul Joe?
For those who haven't even bothered reading it and went straight to bashing Sabrin on the other threads...I think you need to take a long look at this. This isn't about him.
I have a lot of things I want to say but will refrain. All I will say is "you need to step down Joe." Enough is Enough. NJ refuses to be embarrassed anymore.
I have a Feeling There are Many, Many Gems Here
But this is my favorite so far:
"Remember, it is not the universities' hollowed grounds or its impressive brick structures that educate our children."
Jersey Joe becomes ... Jersey Joke
I am sorry but I missed this altogether today. What is that? Jersey Joe wrote a book with his ideas. What ideas? What book? And even better he sent it out. Was it published? Luckily no, but somebody kept a copy. I do not really have time to read junk, but those excerpts (call them executive summaries) sound pretty good. It is Jersey Joke now. Yes, it is time to fold the campaign and go to the bin of history. Sorry Joe. No not sorry. Next time know what you are asking for. Jersey Joke for US Senate. Please, can we stop being embarassed in NJ by NJ politicians? Anything in there about threesome?
