Senate GOP: It's Refreshing to Hear of Responsible Spending

Release Date: Apr 16 2008

Department of Military and Veterans Affairs does Job Efficiently

The five Republican members of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee commended the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs today for operating efficiently.

There have been so many questionable spending practices by state agencies and departments, it is refreshing to hear that a vital agency is a responsible steward of public resources. It was made evident today that the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs not only proudly represents the men and women who faithfully served our country, but also operates in an open and cost-effective manner.

The New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs provides aid and assistance to veterans and their dependents. The benefits and programs provided for our military heroes include post traumatic stress counseling, homeless intervention, tuition assistance and job training.

The importance of providing for our veterans and their families cannot be overstated. We are pleased to hear that the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is affording our veterans the services and programs they so rightfully deserve, especially at a time when the citizen soldiers of the New Jersey National Guard are due to serve oversees in defense of our country. We commend the Department for the services they provide and the manner in which they provide them.

Senators Leonard Lance (R-23), Anthony Bucco (R-25), Kevin O'Toole (R-40), Steve Oroho (R-24) and Phil Haines (R-8) comprise the Republican members of the Budget and Appropriations Committee.
