(TRENTON) - Assembly Speaker Joseph J. Roberts, Jr. today applauded state Comptroller Matthew Boxer on his office's release of a new report which shines a critical light on the questionable practices some state and local governmental entities have implemented with regard to their fiscal audits.
Roberts (D-Camden) released the following statement:
"Comptroller Boxer and his staff should be commended for shining a much-needed light on the often overlooked yet essential process by which government at all levels audits its finances.
"Taxpayers deserve every assurance that state and local officials are seeking the best, nonpartisan, and nonpolitical fiscal counsel.
"The shortcomings in the auditing practices uncovered by the Comptroller fly in the face of good public policy and simply cannot be allowed to continue.
"I look forward to closely examining this report and will work with the Comptroller and my colleagues to craft legislation by the time the Legislature returns in September to root-out these problems."
