Myers to Kelly: End the Cover Up
Kelly must "come clean" in the midst of growing scandal
Mount Holly, May 5, 2008- Businessman and Republican congressional candidate Chris Myers today called on Jack Kelly to "end the cover up" and fully explain how he happened to land two highly lucrative jobs at the South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) that weren't publicly advertised, that he wasn't remotely qualified for, and that significantly boosted his taxpayer-funded pension for life.
Myers, citing an April 10, 2008 memorandum from the SJTA's Human Resources Manager to the SJTA's Custodian of Records, said that no one at the SJTA seems to know why Mr. Kelly's position was created and what the process was for hiring him.
The entire text of the memo: "With [your] regard to the hiring process for Mr. Kelly, we have no records documenting the need or justification of the position. No memorandum that addresses the same, nor do I have records of the position as an agenda item for any personnel committee. I do not have access to any electronic communications that may have addressed the initial request for this position. Therefore, aside from his application, job description, and initial approval for hire from the Executive Director at that time, the process of hiring Mr. Kelly remains ‘unknown.'"
"The SJTA either can't or won't shine any more light on the highly questionable circumstances surrounding Mr. Kelly's hiring," said Myers, a Vice-President at Lockheed Martin. "Therefore I am demanding that Jack Kelly himself end the cover up and answer the questions that outraged taxpayers across the district are asking."
1. How did you know to apply for a job at the SJTA that didn't exist before you were hired and that wasn't publicly advertised?
2. Who told you to apply to the (SJTA) and that there just might be a lucrative, pension-boosting job there waiting for you?
3. Who at the SJTA approved your hiring?
4. Did you ever question how you got these jobs when you clearly did not meet the qualifications stated in the job description?
