Whitman: “We must Eliminate Waste and Fraud in Medicare.”
Over $ 70 Billion in Fraud Last Year Alone.
(Peapack, NJ)… Kate Whitman, Fiscal Conservative Republican for Congress, announced yet another way to eliminate wasteful spending – stop the waste and fraud in Medicare spending which topped over $ 70 billion last year alone (Source: Parade Magazine, 4-20-08).
A recent study by Medco Health Solutions, Inc., which manages prescription benefits for about one in five Americans, stated, “Experts say the data reflect not just worsening health but better medicines for chronic conditions and more aggressive treatment by doctors.” It continued, “In addition, there is the pharmaceutical industry’s relentless advertising. With those factors unlikely to change, doctors say the proportion of Americans on chronic medications can only grow.”
Whitman pointed out that with the number of people on medications growing, the chance of increased waste and fraud to grow is exponential, and unacceptable.
“$70 Billion in waste and fraud is unacceptable. Congress must demand accountability and clean the system up now, before the problem grows and taxpayers are burdened with an even bigger wasteful bill,” state Kate Whitman. She continued, “When I get to Congress, I will sponsor legislation requiring 100% accountability in spending, or no new funding.”
Kate Whitman understands the federal government’s spending system is broken, and it will take a real leader to fix it. She is up to the task, and has a plan to fix it.
