Longtime Hunterdon County Republican Chairman Henry Kuhl is expected to opposition in his re-election bid this June, and Bloomsbury Mayor Mark Peck is viewed as Kuhl’s most likely challenger.
In addition to his own race, Kuhl is dealing with some controversy over last week’s U.S. Senate convention, where State Senator Joseph Pennacchio was the top vote-getter. Pennacchio beat Anne Evans Estabrook, but received less than 50% of the vote – and there has been some effort to convince Kuhl to award the line to Estabrook anyway.

Although I'm not sure if
Although I'm not sure if each county has specifically different rules, if Hunterdon is like Union then they should have done a second ballot if nobody got 50%.
The best way now to decide the line there seems like a random drawing.
Color me Confused
and there has been some effort to convince Kuhl to award the line to Estabrook anyway.
This line certainly needs further explanation.. Who is making the effort to award the line to someone who lost.. Estabrook's people or Hunterdon voters .. And why is this rule about 50% just coming out now and not the night of the convention.. Did no one know of the rules or are the rules being changed now because the establishment candidate lost ??
No rules in Hunterdon
I heard some of the staffers from various campaigns joking that there were no rules in Hunterdon other than the one that said Lance would win. Henry Kuhl has always given the line to whoever he feels like. In 2005 he gave the line to BOTH Forrester and Schundler.
The only reason there even was a convention this year is because the Chairs in Somerset and Union said they wouldn't let Lance screen in their counties if Hunterdon did not afford all candidates the ability to screen there.
Kuhl is good for Hunterdon----Democrats.
The Republican Party in Hunterdon has been successful in spite of Henry Kuhl, and not because of him. His "leadership" has been spotty and inconsistent at best, and outright out of touch with the 21st century at worst.
He has made bad calls on endorsements [his support of Rudy being the biggest blunder], and allowed candidates like Trout to win the primary in his Party. She's is making a mockery of the sheriff's office, and costing taxpayers money. The Republican Party is responsible for that type of candidate, and Kuhl is their leader.
It would be great for the continued growth of the Democratic Party in Hunterdon County if he is re-elected.
Just what we need
another Florio law partner as a Republican county chairman. First Steinhardt in Warren then Peck in Hunterdon. Great move.
Oh my Goodness
"Lee",
You mean a Republican is having a professional association with a Democrat. That mus be blasphemy. How could they do such a terrible thing. Republicans should only have associations with Republicans and Democrats should only have associations with Democrats.
Seriously "Lee." you sound like one of those people who would hate someone if they were found talking to a Democrat.
I have no problem with Peck working at the former Governor's law firm. He is a fine attorney, good republican and will make a great chairman.
About Time
Peck is a good man and one who will stand up to the Democrats. If Kuhl was in the battleground of Bergen and not the bucolic hollows of Hunterdon, he'd be blued out.
I hope Peck gets more prominence, hes a strong conservative in a state that needs them.
