Kyrillos and Webber still banking on Romney

New Jersey Republicans who had signed on with Mitt Romney looked as though they were heading straight for the triage unit going into Michigan on Tuesday when their presidential candidate came alive and beat the surging Sen. John McCain.

"It was the first state in the mix that looks like America, and he won it by ten points," state Sen. Joseph Kyrillos, Romney’s state chairman in New Jersey, said of Romney’s performance in the ethnically diverse mid-western state.

"Mitt had a gun to his head, but the game plays out," added Kyrillos, who’s been affiliated with Romney for over a year now, and who stumped for him in New Hampshire only to watch his candidate cross the finish line in second place behind McCain on Jan. 9th.

Kyrillos maintains that Romney is the only candidate whose finances and organization have enabled to compete in all of the states so far. By contrast, "Huckabee and Rudy have cherry picked states in which to compete," Romney said of the campaigns of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

On Saturday, Romney can win Nevada’s primary, said Kyrillos. Meanwhile, he added, Huckabee and fellow Southerner former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson have to win in South Carolina in order to stay relevant.

Arguing his own candidate’s strengths so far, Peter Kane, Huckabee’s New Jersey campaign director, described the ongoing Republican primary as a three-man race among his candidate, McCain and Romney.

"Gov. Huckabee’s win in Iowa, strong third place in both New Hampshire and now Michigan, demonstrates his staying power in more diverse states like New Jersey," Kane said. "Independents, conservatives and regular Republicans all went for Huckabee in consistent numbers. This race is wide open and the ‘conventional wisdom’ has been turned on its head."

Kane is scheduled to represent Huckabee at a straw poll brunch sponsored by Conservatives with Attitude at the Hampton Inn in Woodbridge on Sat., Jan. 19th.

Assemblyman Jay Webber will represent Governor Romney; Bill Spadea will represent Mayor Rudy Giuliani; Dr. Murray Sabrin will represent U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, and former Assemblyman Guy Gregg will represent Fred Thompson.

Below, Webber discusses his involvement in the Romney campaign.

Good

I'm glad Webber's not jumping on the band-wagon with the rest of the NJ Republicans and supporting Giuliani. Glad to see not all the Republicans in this state are liberals. ;)

Does anybody proof this stuff?

"...added Kyrillos, who’s been affiliated with Kyrillos for over a year now, and who..."

While I am certainly comforted that Joe K is, indeed, affiliated with himself, I am somewhat struck by  Max Pizarro's incredibly sloppy writing.

Mitt Romney's "Dean Scream" moment.

Mitt Romney is done. He suffered from a "Dean Scream" moment recently when he attacked an AP Report Glen Johnson after being asked about having Lobbyists running his campaign...

Then, he has a staffer harrass the reporter for not "acting professional".

If this is the way he handles the press when they pressure him for an answer now, what do you think he would do if elected to the White House?

Jay, Jay, What the hey?

I have always thought highly of Jay Webber; he usually hits some part of the nail on the head . . . and against RINOs, he's usually very accurate in that department.  In backing Romney, however, he has completely missed the target and apparently hit himself in the head, causing him to lose all judgment and perspective.

I listened to Romney's auto-worker pander speech in Michigan with my eyes closed.  As Mitt promised them everything he couldn't possibly ever deliver and then some, mind's eye saw and heard Dennis Kucinich, not anything that sounded like a limited-government, free trade, free market GOP candidate.  Unbelievable, just unbelievable.  Forget RINO, Romney sounded like Huey Long on steroids in that speech.  Even McGreevey was better than that . . .

Elections are choices, as we all understand.  But unless you are treating the contest as a horse race instead of a primary election, you really can't completely ignore your stated political proclivites in making that choice.  At least not with a straight face.

Tell me you're kidding, Jay.  Or that you hit yourself on the head with a hammer or something.  I like a good joke as much as the next guy.  Just don't tell me you're serious  . . . please.

AP Reporter Johnson Is a Partisan Hack

Please!

AP reporter Glen Johnson is an obvious partisan Democrat-promoting hack.  If AP had any regard for their own ethical requirements, they would immediately remove him from coverage of the Presidential campaign.

He has deliberately sought to undermine the campaigns of a few Republicans, most notably Mitt Romney.

Johnson's failure to "succeed" in his attempted undermining coverage of Mitt in Michigan (having filed stories claiming that few people were attending Romney events) apparently has now prompted him to step over the line and try to initiate a personal argument with Mitt.  Johnson is just completely unprofessional.

Since this past fall, Johnson has written story after story raising questions about Mitt's Mormon religion, repeatedly pressing questionable points, such as that other Christians view the Mormon Church as a "cult."  Clearly Johnson's intention was to raise whatever doubts he could prior to the Iowa caucuses, where many Evangelical Christians were expected to participate. Johnson even went so far as to publish a story alleging that Romney's grandfather engaged in polygamy.

It is plainly despicable journalism, and, in my view clearly amounts to soft-core bigotry on Johnson's part.

And, Johnson has also been busy actively promoted the campaign of Hillary Clinton, best illustrated by a laughable puff piece he wrote back on December 1st, about her so-called personal Presidential "handling" of the hostage crisis at one of her campaign headquarters in Rochester, NY, though she wasn't there!

It is a story that has not only been widely criticized for going well over the line -- Johnson has become a well deserved subject of ridicule as a result.

Here, for example are the opening two grafs of that "story":  Warning: BARF ALERT!

"When the hostages had been released and their alleged captor arrested, a regal-looking Hillary Rodham Clinton strolled out of her Washington home, the picture of calm in the face of crisis.   The image, broadcast just as the network news began, conveyed the message a thousand town hall meetings and campaign commercials strive for—namely, that the Democratic presidential contender can face disorder in a most orderly manner."

Are you sick yet?  Hey, read on, if you have the stomach.  Here's another little beauty from his encomium to Hillary!

Along with taking charge while giving the professionals free rein, Clinton offered up a third dimension to her crisis character: humanity. She said she felt "grave concern" when she first heard the news of the hostage-taking.

Now you know why anyone with any sense has "grave concern" that Glen Johnson may well be the most egregious example of bias in a reporter since Dan Rather.

AP should can that clown immediately.

The Straw Poll is at The Forge Tomorrow

It is still in Woodbridge, just a quarter mile up the road.  They noted the location change on their website.  http://gopusanj.com/wordpress/

Trochilus, One thing I

Trochilus,

One thing I realized about you is that instead of defending your candidate of choice, you always attack whoever is questioning the viability of the candidate.

Makes me wonder, are you paid to blog on the behalf of Mitt Romney?

As for the messenger, I don't personally care if it was Kermit The Frog asking the question. The question was legitimate, and you can clearly see in the videos that Romney didn't want to even answer to the questions, then he tried to pass it off as queer, then he went back to his original statement seeing that his previous attempts at dodging the question wasn't working, and in the end, he acts like a playground bully trying to get into the guys face.

And if thats not enough, he sends one of his staffers in to handle his dirty work..

This is not the conduct that I want to see a presidential candidate exibit. Romney clearly doesn't have leadership abilities based on this, and if you think a reporter pressuring him for answers is trying to set up a candidate to fall, well then we should all assume that its ok to be dishonest with the American People because hey, politics is the right for the privaledged few.

I for one, do not think that these people are any better than myself, and surely they do not have the right to be disingenuous with the public, especially if they are running for the highest office in the land.

The Straw Poll is at THE FORGE

The Straw Poll is at THE FORGE on Route 9 in Woodbridge.  (Not the Hampton Inn).

THE FORGE is right across Route 9 from the HESS BUILDING.

The event starts at 10:30AM Saturday morning.  But I highly recommend that you get there early, because a very large crowd is expected to attend (especially same day registrants).

Show Us Your Stripes, JDouglas!

JDouglasFisher:

First, the answer to your posted question to me is no.  I am not paid by Mitt Romney to blog, nor by anyone else for that matter.

Based on his impressive experience, both as a real leader in business, and as a Governor, and, in particular, based on what he did for the Olympics a few years ago, I do think that Mitt would be an excellent President.  And there are other Republican candidates in the race whose impressive records and career accomplishments, strongly suggest they would be excellent Presidents as well.

But you may have noticed, I am not a Ron Paul zealot, as you quite clearly are.

One real benefit to blogging is the ability to post opinions or evaluations that are unfiltered by various media organs.  That used to be the limitation with filing opinion commentary, and or even letters to the editor.  Some opinionated OpEd editor would inevitably twist or clip words, sometimes even change your message.  No more!

In the old days, one of the only ways around that media filter, was publishing newsletters, or other media on your own.  That is the way Ron Paul chose to communicate to his followers for years, including the repeated expression therein of some very peculiar views, which he now denies he knew anything about.  He has been strongly criticized for those views, including by Cato-at-Liberty.

What the increased electronic media freedom also does, is open the door for people to pretend that they are one thing and act to the contrary.  For example, in your ardor to convince us that you are a true Republican, I’d note that you have left an unfiltered trail of faux opinion all over this site very personally attacking any other Republican, state or national, who is NOT either Ron Paul or Murray Sabrin.

One of the most laughable was your silly go-go cheerleading comment posted last night for Patrick Leahy and John Conyers for their partisan entrance into the federal monitor issue, lauding them for sending letters to David Walker, and encouraging the GAO to “investigate” the monitoring program.  All the while you opine that such an “investigation” would portend good news for the Republican Party in NJ, seemingly because it would rid the party of those who are not of your persuasion!

Why would you not recognize the federal monitor issue for exactly what it is -- a desperate blow back attack by partisan Democrats to try and stave off legitimate investigations into corruption that are being pursued by the United States Attorney here in New Jersey?  But you, JDouglas, would apparently rather cheerlead for those enabling the corrupt politicians who have a grip on our state!

One investigation involves an ongoing probe of a United States Senator who, just last year, was caught loading his own pockets with federal taxpayer money for over a decade, by renting his personally-owned property at a premium to an organization that paid for the rent using federal funds that the then-member of the House of Representatives used his position to obtain for them!  That specifically violated a federal criminal law that has been in effect since it Thomas Jefferson first signed it as President of the United States in 1808.

Tell us, where is the Patrick Leahy and John Conyers demand for a Government Accounting Office investigation of that matter, JDouglas?  And where was your comment on this site about that outrage at any time when it was front page news?

Until recently, we had a state Senator who was the Chair of the Joint Appropriations Committee in Trenton, and who was shaking down governmental institutions appearing before his committee, by muscling them into personally hiring him for no-show jobs, so he could bask in the benefits of the “unearned income, and pump up the basis for his state pension.  It was a double whammy that he was perpetrating on us all.  He’s been indicted for the scheme.

But where, oh where, were (or are) your words of protest, JDouglas?

Not a peep!  Your words are aimed exclusively at Republicans who do not share your kooky “enthusiasm” for a man who was allowing racialist literature to be printed in his name for years, and who now says he knew nothing about it!  But he wants to be President!

In other words, you would now have us believe that you and your “Johnny-one-note’ screeching Paulovnians somehow warrant, or deserve to take over the Republican Party in New Jersey?   Get in line, my friend, and earn your stripes!

Start by dropping the “public assists” to the likes of Patrick Leahy and John Conyers, and actually help to take on what has become one of the most corrupt and most entrenched enterprises in the nation.  Earn those stripes, and some day you may even be thought worthy enough to persuade the rest of us of doing things your way.
