State Sen. Joseph Kyrillos issued a statement today indicating that he would not pursue a run for the U.S. senate in 2008.
"I am flattered and grateful for the encouragement of some good friends and allies," said the senator from Middletown. "Susan and I considered a race and have made a family decision not to pursue it. Each of the announced Republican candidates would be a far more effective Senator than the incumbent."
Kyrillos spearheaded the New Jersey effort for Mitt Romney's unsuccessful presidential campaign.
Some Republicans, including Monmouth County Republican Chairman Adam Puharic, suggested Kyrillos' late entry into the 2008 Senate race would be a game-changing event.
Had he jumped into the race, Kyrillos would have joined declared GOP candidates millionaire businesswoman Anne Evans Estabrook, state Sen. Joseph Pennacchio and economist Prof. Murray Sabrin, who are running for their party's nomination to face incumbent U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg in November.

Sorry Joe K...you just dont have enough juice to pull off a victory in Novemeber against Frankie...
The Dems are Giddy
Lautenberg just dodged a major bullet. That sound you hear is DiMicco popping champagne. Kyrillos is head and shoulders above the rest of the field, and would have easily been the strongest GOP statewide candidate in a generation.
TheBullhorn
ZZZZZZZZZZZ . . . . somebody say something???
Say it aint so Joe
Joe would have been an excellent candidate, but he would be getting in too late. He should run for Governor, perfect contrast to Corzine
Good move
After exhausting campaign for Romney, it is time to focus on NJ problems. Aren't State Senators supposed to do that?
Reality Check
Joe Kyrillos is a nice guy. Because of that, he'd be no better as a state-wide candidate than he was as a party chairman (e.g. disasterous). The only reason his name continues to pop up is because he has a consulting firm which is very good at stoking his ego with fake numbers, false arguments and smoke-and-mirrors. My God, hasn't anyone ever noticed that whenever this site posts something about Kyrillos, a bunch of brand new bloggers who have never posted before (and who usually never post again) suddenly start posting about how great a candidate Kyrillos would be? That's because those are fake bloggers created/posted by the Senator's consultants, which they then point to as validation of whatever they're pushing on him that week. (BTW, this phenomenon is only endemic to items about Kyrillos - this doesn't happen with any other Jersey politico). The pathetic thing is, the poor guy falls for it every time.
More Reality
South Jersey Lib: Damn near this WHOLE site is anonymous. Have you ever noticed that it has devolved into nothing more than an anonymous gossip rag? For all we know, one or two maniacs could be creating ALL of the anonymous pseudonyms that usually trash but sometimes praise a political figure. Look at you - you anonymously trashed Kyrillos' consulting firm before you even stopped to think that the firm you allude to is actually retained BY ANOTHER US SENATE CANDIDATE this year. For pete's sake, that is the height of hypocrisy. If anonymity is wrong, then let it be wrong for the whole site, and not just for the people who happen to like or praise Senator Kyrillos.
Kyrillos won't
Good!!!!!!!!!!
Real True NJ Republicans don't want your Sorry Ass to run anyway.
YAWN!
Another poser bites the dust.
