  Lance for Congress issued the following statement today calling on Assemblywoman Linda Stender to oppose immediately Gov. Corzine’s second attempt to increase tolls in New Jersey.

While Sen. Leonard Lance has been fighting for taxpayers and outlining a plan to reduce gas prices, Stender has again remained silent as the Democrats plot to raise tolls on New Jersey families already crippled by soaring gas prices.

“Now especially with gas prices up 50% under the Democratic Congress people can’t afford higher tolls. New Jersey families are struggling everyday to make ends meet, and instead of fighting for the taxpayers, Stender continues to tax and spend them out of their homes,” said Lance Campaign Manager Amanda Woloshen.

In February, Stender waited and waited and waited until other Democrats voiced opposition to Corzine’s initial toll hike debacle before she timidly announced her own position. 

Stender has voted with the Democratic leadership more than 99 percent of the time and has been a robotic, rubber-stamp for the Democratic Party bosses that have raised our property taxes, tripled our state’s debt and pushed us to the brink of financial disaster. 

“In stark contrast, Senator Lance has consistently led the fight against the Democrats’ tax and spend policies in Trenton and will do the same in Washington. Senator Lance is a staunch opponent of borrowing without voter approval and even broke with his own party to oppose the 1997 pension bond borrowing plan. Lance was also the prime plaintiff in the 2004 lawsuit against then Governor Jim McGreevey to halt State borrowing without voter approval,” said Woloshen.

We are calling on Assemblywoman Stender to stand up against this reckless proposal. A real legislator – a real leader – would have defended their constituents immediately.
