Lance to endorse Romney

The New York Times has reported that Senate Minority Leader Leonard Lance will support Mitt Romney for the Republican presidential nomination. He would become the second State Senator to back Romney, joining Joseph Kyrillos, a former GOP State Chairman.

This makes me wonder if (the otherwise moderate) Lance has statewide aspirations. This would explain why he is endorsing the more conservative of the major candidates (yes, yes I know that Duncan Hunter is a lot more conservative than Romney but we're talking about the candidates with a real chance here)

Former governors beat sitting senators everytime. Lance is just making a safe bet which may provide some decent payoff sometime after Nov 08 -- may provide.

How the heck did Lance not get caught up in the Rudy Rampage.......I thought all Jersey , so-called GOP leaders were kissing Rudy's.......ehr....ring. I guess some leaders do think that policy and issue positions do matter. It's a shame there aren't more party leaders whom think that early, misplaced popularity isn't everything!
