New Jersey's two Democratic Senators, Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez, said in early July that they would support the winner of the Democratic U.S. Senate primary in Connecticut, where Ned Lamont defeated incumbent Joseph Lieberman in a close race. Both Senators reaffirmed their support of Lamont today.
"Joe Lieberman is a good friend and an excellent Senator who has served his country with dignity. He ran a hard-fought campaign, but the voters of Connecticut have spoken and I support their decision. I fully support Ned Lamont's candidacy," said Menendez. "Americans are fed up with George Bush's status quo policy in Iraq and last night they spoke loudly and clearly that they want leaders who will take the country in a new direction. The choice for New Jersey voters is simple. I will stand up to George Bush and his failed policy in Iraq, and Tom Kean Jr. will be just another rubber stamp for the status quo."

Dead on! resurrectingreagan, CT is not a microcosium of the national trend. It is a completely whack-a-doodle electorate. Fighting Joe will win in the general when the other 60% can weigh in. This will keep the Move-on crowd busy there. I predict Rove and Co. also will be there under the radar, they owe Joe that much. As for the "Corona Corruption Menendez",Lautenberg, Schumer,Clinton and Dodd, they just reduced their base. R's running for Congress in PA,CT,NY have just been given a gifthorse with this Leftist takeover of the D's

Who spoke last night, Bobby? Americans did you say? While yes those who voted are americans registered to do so (although you never can tell with democrat constituencies)those who voted were the democrat base. They don't speak for all americans, they just spoke for themselves. You Democrats always interpret local and state primary turn out, which is really nothing more than a percentage of a percentage of the eligible voting population of CT in this case, as some sort national mandate, some early victory tally for November.
I am curious to see how chummy Bob gets with the standardbearer for the extreme left in the coming months. New Jerseyans may be wary of war but they won't embrace defeatism either. While Bob was squirreled away in some posh DC bunker for our elected elitists on 9/11 most residents here had a next door view of the absurd conclusion of the anti-americanism left unchecked which Lamont mirrors in his campaign rhetoric. Go ahead, Senator stand right next to Lamont and smile nice for the picture. The Kean camp would love to mail a copy to every Jersey voter they can.
Joe Lieberman defeating Ned Lamont would be a complete disaster
Joe Lieberman defeating Ned Lamont would be a complete disaster for the Democratic Party. Lieberman's colleagues see it and and as a result are pleading with Lieberman not to run. They know that he's nore than strong enough to defeat Ned Lamont no matter how much money George Soros and his MoveOn.org goons line his pockets with cash.
The interesting thing in all of this is the voter demographic. The people who voted for Lamont tended to be rich upper class elites(which libs are supposed to dispise)and college students/graduates(marxists in training)while Lieberman got support from from the blue collar working class.
Joe Lieberman is going to defeat Ned Lamont easily in November and the betrayal of his colleagues is going to cost them dearly.
When Joe Lieberman is elected, he will not have any handcuffs on
When Joe Lieberman is elected, he will not have any handcuffs on him. He is basically a Democratic Nightmare because he's actually Pro-life but had to can the overt posisition to maintain his status in the Party. Now he will be "Free at last!"

Joe's kiss of death was a photo of him and Bush embracing that was circulated during the campaign. Can't wait to see the Kean Jr./Bush photos and Kean Jr./Cheney photos in October.
Lieberman's loss has much more to do about him than his support
Lieberman's loss has much more to do about him than his support of the Iraq War.
Elected in 1988 by some 10,000 votes over Lowell Weicker, Lieberman got a virtual pass in 1994 despite the fact Republicans swept the congressional elections. Lieberman spent $4 million dollars against token opposition.
In 2000, he received another pass because he was running for the vice-presidency and didn't campaign. In effect, Lieberman hadn't seriously engaged CT voters in 18 years!
He lost the Democratic stronghold of Bridgeport and was unable to keep African-American support on his side against a complete novice.
Lieberman is a liberal Democrat that can't win in November. His money will dry up and support will transfer to Lamont. The whole Democratic Party is now against him which begs the question why run to organize with the very Democrats who oppose you should you somehow win?
Republicans are kidding themselves if they think Lieberman will survive. Like Bill Bradley in 1990, it was arrrogance that beat Lieberman, not Bush, Iraq or Ned Lamont.
