Levinson decides not to run for Senate, backs Unanue

Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson will not run for U.S. Senate and will instead back Goya Foods heir Andy Unanue for the seat.

“He’s a dynamic young man, wants to get involved,” said Levinson, who received a courtesy phone call from Unanue today.  “He comes forward without the political baggage that so many of our candidates have.  It’s exactly the way things should be.”

Levinson’s name was floated by Atlantic County Republican Chairman Keith Davis last week as many Republican leaders were searching for another candidate to run in the wake of Anne Estabrook’s departure from the race.  Last week, he refused to rule out a run but downplayed the possibility to PolitickerNJ.com.

It’s possible that Levinson could run for statewide office in the future, but right now he’s satisfied in his role as county executive.

“I’m very, very satisfied where I am, and a man really has to know his limitations,” he said.  “I have really no desire to go to Washington, although it was really flattering, the amount of interest that was generated far and near.”

And the support continues to grow.

More and more people see are seeing the potential in Andy. Can't say I blame them. I can't wait to see him debate Senator Prune Juice!

Does Goya make prune juice?

why not Levinson?

Levinson would be an interesting candidate for Statewide office in the future.

If he ran for Senate, he could take in some hefty Casino donations, like Gormley did a few years back.

Who is that?

“He’s a dynamic young man, wants to get involved,” said Levinson, who received a courtesy phone call from Unanue today.  “He comes forward without the political baggage that so many of our candidates have.  It’s exactly the way things should be.”

Now we know what is required from the GOP US Senate candidate - being dynamic (see skiing), wants to get involved (see running for the US Senate), without the political baggage (see unknown candidates), must know how to make phone calls (see political donations).

I think that's all folks.

Unknown decides to back total unknown

This is all so absurd.

Lautenberg is going to win with 70% of the vote.  Maybe 84%, to match his age.

And, no, I don't like him and don't think he has been an effective Senator, but you can't beat somebody with nobody.

Levenson

Is not going to run for Senate and lose, because he wants to run for Lt. GOv in 09. He is a real solid pick for that seat. SJ has been trending Democratic for the past few years, despite this he has won. Unlike Lobiondo who has faced only minor poorly funded opposition, Levenson defeated Jim McGettigan, who was the dems top vote getter. Not only did he beat him de literally destroyed him at the polls.
