It was a bad weekend for Bogota Mayor Steven Lonegan, the de facto statewide leader of the most conservative wing of the New Jersey Republican Party: a disclosure that the longtime foe of illegal immigration and English Only proponent had hired undocumented immigrants to assemble campaign signs in his garage. Lonegan says he’s the victim, alleging that the Bogota Police Department, upset that Lonegan would not make certain concessions in their contract negotiations, used racial profiling to make him look bad.

Set up?
Believe me, I'm no Lonegan fan. But, this is sounding a little too much like a set up. Not sure by who, but sounds fishy.
Of course...
Lonegan was set up...in his own mind maybe. He hired the workers. Left to get "papers" for them to fill out, and didn't come back for 2 hours. He's on the exteme right of the right wing, and he hires people that are undocumented after screaming to the rafters about this for years? Yeah, set up...yeah, right.
Illegal is Illegal
Either this was a set up or a story plant under the motto " that any story is a good story". If Steve Lonegan needed signs put together he just has to pick up the phone and he gets 100 people all legal GRATIS. Its also ironic that the signs were NOT for town or county candidates. If Steve Lonegan can get over 1000 signatures for John Ginty overnight he can get legal help to assemble signs. This one stinks.
Non issue
Lonegan didn't actually hire them did he?....He was going to get the proper papers for them? Where he more than likely would have found out they were illegal? Where's the story here? -Total set up.

Steve Lonegan spoke exclusively with us last night and set the record straight on the story. Check it out:

Not a fan either...
But it seems to be a "Do as I say, not as I do" situation. He got caught. Plain and simple. Couldn't be bothered going to a temp agency and hiring some legit workers.
He gets caught and now tries and put the blame on another to divert the issue of his poor, hypocritical decison making. Can we say pathetic?
brother can you spare a dime?
Sounds like a decent Christian thing to do, offer two guys some work but next time get the paperwork done first. Perhaps the Liberals would rather have had him slam the door in their faces and hung a sign in the window that says "if you look like you are from south of the border you need not apply." The unions would have definitely appreciated that considering $80 for the job is nowhere near prevailing wage.
hypocite
and that is the best thing anyone can say for this guy.
