Lonegan joins PoliticsNJ.com

Mayor Steve LoneganMayor Steve LoneganPoliticsNJ.com is pleased to welcome Steve Lonegan as a featured blogger. A leader of the conservative wing of New Jersey's Republican Party, Lonegan was elected Mayor of Bogota in 1995 and re-elected in 1999 and 2003.  His last re-election bid was chronicled in the documentary film Anytown, USA.  He is the Executive Director of Americans for Prosperty-New Jersey and sought the Republican nomination for Governor in 2005.  Lonegan announced last year that he would not seek re-election to a fourth term as Mayor.  Lonegan joins former U.S. Senator Bob Torricelli, former Governor Christie Whitman, Rider University professor David Rebovich and former New York Times reporter Terry Golway as featured PoliticsNJ.com bloggers.  Watch for Mayor Lonegan's first blogpost soon.

Great

Well, I guess if you want to increase readership having a bigoted blowhard onto the staff is a good way to go.

OUTSTANDING ADDITION

The addition of Mayor Lonegan will be of great benefit to the site. He will draw greater readership and enhance debate in this State. I believe everyone would agree that increased debate is needed, and beneficial. The Mayor is very knowledgeable on the issues and can express his viewpoints (whether you agree with them or not) in an articulate and fact based manner.

As for calling him a bigoted blowhard, if that means someone who stands for Freedom and the American way ... that is not a bad thing. Mr. Anonymous' rhetoric is just another example of the leftists in this state who grandstand on emotion and anger without factual support.

 Good luck Steve Lonegan.

more the merrier...

I disagree w/ Lonegan 99% of the time (we agree on anti-corruption issues, and I think that's it) but I'm all for more bloggers.

What I don't understand is why people constantly refer to him as the titular head of the conservative wing in NJ? What has he done? what are his accomplishments? Bret Schundler ran the 2nd largest city in NJ, Lonegan can barely run Bogota. Its really no comparison.

I'd peg the over/under at roughly 1 month before Lonegan writes something controversial

Fantastic Addition

As a supporter of Mayor Lonegan I am extremely pleased at the news of his addition to the site. Mayor Lonegan IS infact the conservative standard bearer in New Jersey today because he earned the right to be. He has done so by touring the state and championing traditional conservative values such as small government, lower taxes, education reform and is the only republican on the political scene injecting any passion and/or sense of urgency into these critical issues.

Those who label Mayor Lonegan a bigot or an ineffective Mayor are simply ignorant and incapable of holding an intelligent debate. Mayor Lonegan cares deeply about Bogota and has infact done an excellent job and has served three terms as a result. He is fed up with rising costs caused by fiscal irresponsibility in Trenton which results in tax increases on a municipal level. He also takes it personally when a corporation racially profiles his hispanic residents by putting up a billboard in Spanish, assuming that they don't know English. Naturally, left wing special interest groups like Garden State Equality and the Latin American Democratic Association, who twist the facts by telling you their version of the story to benefit their own personal and political agendas which will in turn, cost you even more of your tax dollars would have you believe such vitriol.

I welcome Mayor Lonegan wholehartedly and look forward to his future posts. I must say, I'm liking the new PoliticsNJ more and more.
