MARKS FOR CONGRESS - Marks Hails Signing of Economic Growth Package

Release Date: Feb 14 2008

Scotch Plains, NJ – Mayor Martin Marks, Republican candidate for Congress in the Seventh District, applauds the signing of the multibillion-dollar economic stimulus package.

“As our nation faced tremendous uncertainty in the financial sector over the last few months, I applaud our leaders in Washington for putting politics aside to provide a much needed boost to those who need it most -  seniors living on social security, disabled veterans, small businesses and working families across New Jersey and the country,” explained Marks.

“This is an important first step for righting our nation’s volatile economy, but more needs to be done.”

“Congress needs to abolish the harmful alternative minimum tax (AMT) and make the 2001 tax cuts permanent – a move that would allow for working families in New Jersey and across the nation to  keep more of their hard earned dollars. It would devastate New Jersey’s working families if the 2001 tax cuts expire, resulting in an unbearable overnight hike in the marriage penalty, death tax and overall tax rates. As a candidate for Congress, I have a responsibility to do all that I can to further shore up the economy and protect families across New Jersey and the country.”

“We still have much work left to do to protect working families across this district and New Jersey. For too long the federal government has failed us and I am running for Congress to change the way Washington works.”

Martin Marks is a lifelong resident of the 7th Congressional District who shares the concerns and values of our families.
