Lautenberg rolls out two new endorsements

Frank Lautenberg touted two new endorsements today in his Senate primary campaign against Rob Andrews: one from an environmental group and one from a union.

Lautenberg has the backing of Communications Workers for America District One.

"No one could possibly do a better job of representing New Jersey's working families in the U.S. Senate,” said Chris Shelton, the union’s vice president.

Shelton is feuding with CWA Local 1034 President Carla Katz, who last month endorsed Andrews for Senate. Katz today named Shelton in a lawsuit she’s filling against several branches of the union.

The League of Conservation Voters, a national environmental advocacy group, issued a press release supporting Lautenberg, noting that he voted with the group 96% of the time during the course of his Senate career. Rob Andrews’s lifetime score with the organization was not immediately available, but during the 110th congress he voted with the League 100% of the time, versus Lautenberg’s 93%.

Comments

Shelton does not speak for all CWA

Chris Shelton resides in New York. The CWA District Office is in New York. Maybe since Lautenberg lives in New York most of the time Shelton felt he could give the endorsement.

Why did Shelton not mention that 2 of the 7 CWA Locals in NEW JERSEY ( HEY CHRIS , THAT IS WERE WE LIVE!) ENDORSED ANDREWS.

The only local that puts people on the streets has endorsed Andrews.

Shelton and the rest of the NEW YORK CWA leadership group continues to ignore anything and anyone South of New Brunswick.

This endorsement is worthless unless Lautenbergis running for the Senate Seat in New York.

Shelton Needs MAPQUEST

How would this guy know what the " working families of New Jersey " need ? The only time he and the other CWA District One peopel come into New Jersey is when they need political contributions. In reality do you know what this endorsement means. One flyer will be mailed on June 1 and will not even be read by 80% of the state workers. Without Katz this gang could not organize a political rally or even a phone bank. Andrews got an endorsement from someone who will actually do something. Lautenberg got an endorsement from a group that is not even aware that the primary is in June. Don't bank on this New York gang Frank!

And this one...

Congressional candidate and front-runner
in U.S. Senate race ask why Andrews
funnels taxpayer money to wife’s workplace

BARRINGTON – The Philadelphia Inquirer today further exposed the unethical earmarks arranged by Rob Andrews to fund his wife’s employer.

According to The Inquirer, Andrews funneled $2 million in taxpayer dollars to the law school at Rutgers University-Camden, where his wife, Camille Andrews, worked.

Dale Glading, candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in New Jersey’s 1st District, called Andrews’ earmarks “borderline unethical” and added that “from my perspective and those who share my concerns, Rob might as well have taken $600,000 in small bills, wrapped them in a brown paper bag, and put them on Camille's desk.” (“Andrews defends earmarks for wife's school”, The Philadelphia Inquirer, May 14, 2008)

Glading added, “If you’re going to bring back money to Camden . . . there are a whole lot better ways to spend it than on tuition scholarships to law students.” (“Andrews defends earmarks for wife's school”, The Philadelphia Inquirer, May 14, 2008)

Camden is the poorest and third most dangerous city in the entire United States, and yet it is traditionally a stronghold for the Norcross political machine, despite the machine’s abject failure to improve the city.

Camille Andrews, for her part, is now serving as the placeholder candidate for her husband’s congressional seat.

Julie Roginsky, campaign spokeswoman for Senator Lautenberg, added, “It seems Congressman Andrews owes New Jersey taxpayers an explanation as to why he constantly directed taxpayer money to a program his wife controls, even when Rutgers didn't ask him to.” (“Andrews defends earmarks for wife's school”, The Philadelphia Inquirer, May 14, 2008)

Although the machine politicians arranged for his own wife to stand in as a placeholder candidate in the 1st District, Rob Andrews says he is not running for re-election to the House, even if he loses the June 3 primary against Senator Frank Lautenberg.

Andrews told The Courier-Post, “I will not serve in the Congress next term under any circumstances.” (“1st Congressional District primary a free-for-all”, The Courier-Post, May 11, 2008)

In a poll released late last month, Senator Lautenberg led Andrews by 15 points in their race for the U.S. Senate. (“Poll: Lautenberg leads Andrews in Senate race”, The Daily Journal, April 30, 2008)

Frank lives in New York

No surprise that his cronies in NYC would be supporting him.

Carla is the real deal and will have the votes that Andrews needs.

05/14/08 6:30 pm

Cmon now...

...firstmend07, as the above article proves, Andrews doesn't work for you or any of the citizens of NJ - he's in it for power and to be the servant of political bosses and corrupt machines. How can you defend that motive? Andrews doesn't belong in this race up against a stand up guy like Lautenberg - an ethical, hard working servant TO THE PEOPLE of NJ, not to an influential few. So quit blabbing that BS that Lautenberg doesn't live in NJ - he does and you know it. There is no question in this reace - Frank Lautenberg!

Riverkeeper

You're blind if you think the cronies work for Lautenberg! Just read the above article to see who works for the cronies! You cannot defend Andrews' actions and you know it...

Lautenberg a stand up guy?

Fenwick is too old!

If she was too old at 72 what is Lautenberg?

He can also keep all his New York CWA friends, and those out of touch CWA presidents who simply ask " how high?" when Shelton says jump and watch how the only CWA political organization that knows how to deliver on election day delivers for Andrews.

Did you know that the CWA New York organization that " endorsed " Lautenberg is part of the Workers Party in New York ? These Socialists should be kept out of New Jersey.

05/14/08 6:51 pm

These people are not even members of the Democratic Party!

The leadership of CWA District 1 are part of a third Party fringe group . Is this the type of endorsements Lautenberg is looking for?

Bob Masters, who is the political Director under Shelton is not even a member of the Democratic Party . He is not even a New Jersey resident. He uses his CWA connections to promote a fringe third party organization .

Read for yourself their philosophy:

Working Families Party

WFP Leadership

Co-Chairs

Bertha Lewis, Executive Director, New York ACORN
Bob Master, Political Director, CWA Region 1
Samuel Williams, CAP Director, UAW Region 9

The vast majority of us share progressive values and want more affordable health care, a higher minimum wage, and better schools - but real change is hard to come by.

We've built a party for working people and their children. Many people think that building a new party is too hard, that their only real choice is for "the lesser of two evils."

Know your sources

That is not a news article. It is a press release from the Republican Candidate for the 1st CD and apparently Frank Lautenberg's latest endorsement. Some progressive Frank is. He and the Republicans are running from the same play book.

Frank Lautenberg is old and tired. Time for some new blood who will actually show up and help NJ. NY doesn't need a 3rd senator.
