Sabrin casts chairman vote in Bergen

Fresh from his U.S. Senate candidacy, newly minted Bergen County Committeeman Murray Sabrin walked into Republican Headquarters tonight to cast his vote for county chairman.

Sabrin was accompanied by his wife, Florence, who started a freeholder bid here on Sabrin’s rebel slate before Chairman Rob Ortiz’s allies successfully challenged her petition signatures.  She is now also a county committeewoman.

Sabrin, a Fort Lee resident, wouldn’t say who he planned to vote for, but he eliminated one of the three choices.

“Let’s put it this way: it’s not Rob Ortiz,” said Sabrin.

There's no love lost between Sabrin and Ortiz.

Ortiz was instrumental in recruiting Andy Unanue to run for Senate in the primary against Sabrin and state Sen. Joe Pennacchio.  After Unanue dropped out, Ortiz helped usher in former Rep. Dick Zimmer, who went on to win the nomination.

Running for Ortiz's spot are former freeholder candidate Bob Yudin and long time party stalwart Ben Focarino, who lost the county chairman race to Ortiz last year.

“I want to know where Andy Unanue is tonight,” joked Sabrin.

I would like

to see Murray run again. Becoming a committee person is a good first step towards getting in the good graces of the party faithful.

Murrays Sense of Humor

He definitely had the best comments of any candidate and he continues by mocking the pathetic choice of Unanue.
