Cryan engages Kyrillos in early gubernatorial proxy fight

In what could turn out to be the first proxy fight of the 2009 race for governor, Democratic State Chairman Joe Cryan chastised State Sen. Joe Kyrillos (R-Middletown) for his claim that public corruption prosecutions by U.S.Attorney Chris Christie helped end “Christmas Tree” budget items.

"Mr. Kyrillos should get his facts straight and get the story right,” said Cryan. “It was Governor Corzine who did away with Christmas Tree spending and it's Governor Corzine who has reformed other aspects of the budget process, effectively changing spending practices by both political parties for years, if not decades.”

“Christmas tree items” referred to legislative pork, often in the form of last minute expenditures added to the budget for legislators’ pet projects. Corzine vowed to end them for the 2009 budget, while they drew scrutiny and subpoenas from the U.S. Attorney’s office during previous years.

Christie is said to be considering a gubernatorial bid next year. Kyrillos, a friend of Christie’s, is considered a potential candidate for the newly created office of Lieutenant Governor on Christie’s ticket.

On Tuesday, Kyrillos told PolitickerNJ that “Democrats in New Jersey gave special projects a bad name, and it's frankly in large measure because of the work of the U.S. Attorney that there were no Christmas tree items in the budget this year.”

Cryan said that it's clear who deserves credit for ending the practice.

"The criticism can be made of both parties but the credit goes to the Governor,” he said. “The legitimacy of Christmas Tree spending can be debated, but there is no debate over who put an end to it. All past Governors possessed the red pen, but it was Governor Corzine who used it. Senator Kyrillos may have a hard time giving the Governor the credit he deserves, but he can't rewrite history."

Kyrillos called Cryan's response "laughable."

"Everybody knows the Trenton Democrats didn’t just insert Christmas trees in the budget, but whole forests," he said. "They significantly abused the time-honored tradition of serious legislators and it took the U.S. Attorney to shine the spotlight on the whole mess.”

LMAO

Yeah Gov. Corzine really told those Christmas Tree items who's boss back in 2006 when there was something like $300 million in pork-barrell spending!

Joe Cryan is a tool..

Cryan's A Joke

Who is Cryan trying to kid, Corzine's first two budgets had a ton of pork and Christmas Tree items. Doesn't anyone remember the shutdown over the sales tax where the Dem Legislature took 1/2 of the penny sales tax (hundreds of millions) and spent it on Christmas Tree items? Of course, Corzine didn't veto any of them.

Scandal

For some reason PolitickerNJ stays away from Burl Co GOP scandal stories. Makes you wonder.

Let's concede this...

If he insists, Mr. Christie can legitimately claim responsibility for discouraging self-profiting Christmas tree items. The ones where corrupt legislators secure state funds that benefit themselves. All in all, that's an extremely small part of the species.

But Democrats in the Legislature and Governor Corzine rendered the entire species extinct in this year's budget.

Mr. Christie can claim zero rightful responsibility for ending the far larger practice.

The only thing that's laughable is for his campaign proxies to sprain their wrists by overreaching to pat him on the back.

Kryillos, provocateur

If Christie had wanted to take credit for eliminating Christmas tree items from the budget, believe me, he would have had his regular self-congratulatory press conference. This, however, was a surrogate, Kyrillos, making an overstated case for Christie's influence in helping to end Christmas tree budget items. It was Kyrillos, of course, who interviewed Christie last year for a Brookdale College t.v. show that wasn't aired because it was deemed "too political."

Corzine's budget cut out almost all Christmas Tree items, which, by the way, were approved by Republican and Democratic administrations in the past. NJ Biz reports that this year's budget was so lean that "There were few last-minute grants added on, no new money for special interests to haggle over and no proposed taxes to repel." The governor, who crafts the state budget, deserves the lion's share of credit, and, to a lesser extent, so does the state legislature and as Christie, for helping to bring this issue to the public's attention.

Never would have happend

The ethics legislation never would have happened if not for Christie's crack down on political corruption in this state. The Dems didn't move on the issue until people started getting indicted. Nothing like the threat of jail to have people "get religion".
As far as a "lean" budget, please, the State is running billions in debt, revenues are shrinking as businesses leave the state for greener pastures in PA, IL, and CA, and people are fleeing to the south and other mid-Atlantic states. It's not like they had much of a choice in shrinking the budget. But no worries, they immediately added billions more in debt in Abbott spending. And they potentially will hurt the tax-payers of the state even more with a yet to be seen transportation fund scheme. So fret not Democrats, New Jersey is still your heaven on earth.

WHAT A CROCK ALL THE WAY AROUND

What a crock of dung. Corzine? Ended Pork? Joke. Corzine signed a record number in FY 2007. He signed a whole bunch more in 2008. Finally in 2009 there were no line items left in the budget to veto because Codey got sick of watching his budget committee members go to jail for it and so the budget sent to Corzine had none in it. Corzine... despite Codey's new religion... is continuing to pass out pork via cute programs he has politicized, including the $160- million distressed cities program (Union City, harrison, paterson) and extraordinary aid (Bogotoa, Wood-ridge) and the school construction program (about a billion worth). Pork is far from dead because Corzine keeps it on life support.  CORZINE IS THE WORST GOVERNOR IN HISTORY.

One correction

It's not "about a billion worth". It's $3.9 billion. ;) As our Corzine once said, "there is a relatively finite amount of resources". As opposed to all the resources that we have that are infinite.

Joe Cryan is All Spin But No Depth and Substance

http://www.northjersey.com/news/bergenpolitics/Whos_funding_Ferriero.

Published today front page The Record.

The article answers why our taxes are the highest in the country? Joe Ferriero's leadership and operation and Joe Cryan is his biggest and most enthusiastic fan!  Joe Cryan stands with BCDO Chairman Joe Ferriero and said,

Joe Ferriero is the most progressive democratic leader in the state and all leaders should emulate Joe Ferriero's progressive style.

That says it all. Joe Cryan doesn't stand with Loretta Weinberg's reform values and practices! Joe Ferriero, Cryan and Corzine share the same mind set and "boss friendly" ideas, values and approach to politics and philosophy: It's my way or the highway!

No doubt Chris Christies work has motivated Corzine and Cryan to conduct a rudimentary clean up job at the state house regarding ethics reform...Christie put Corzine and Cryan on the defensive...But they have barely scratched the surface of corruption and ethical failings because there hearts and wallets aren't really in it! It's also true that they have not thrown their full support behind Loretta Weinberg's clean government initiative. Loretta aims to rehabilitate the bosses and pass very tough and loop free legislation and enact the laws!

Now Christopher Christie is clearly making substantial inroads in the very area that Loretta Weinberg tirelessly toils in. He is clearly in charge and on the offense as he makes his way around Bergen County!

What lurks behind the smoke and mirror of Joe Cryan praising Jon Corzine's major ethics reform and progress: Cryan's very public gushing and glowing endorsement of Joe Ferriero! Cryan said in June, that Joe Ferriero's leadership style sets the highest standard for democratic Leadership in NJ and everyone should emulate BCDO Chairman Joe Ferriero!

Cryan a classic flunky

Joe Cryan defends and heaps praise on Gov. Corzine the way Ray Lesniack heaped praise on disgraced former Gov. McGreevey. When are the citizens of NJ going to wake up and throw these two classic hacks out of office?

Corzine eliminated the Christmas items once the US Attorney embarrassed him into it. Corzine's continued coddiling of the Unions, combined with his obvious desire to be a national figure, will hopefully doom his re-election bid. With all his traveling out of state, Codey has probably been the Gov. more than he was when he took over for McGreevey.

Get real Sen. Cryan...or you'll be doomed to be the laughing stock that fellow Sen Lesniack has become.

The world did not end in 2006.

By your measure, Chris Christie hasn't put anyone in jail because there were still crooks running free in 2004.

Joe Cryan is the consummate

Joe Cryan is the consummate hypocrite. Here is a guy who allegedly fights for the little guy but has the nerve to take three jobs, all be it that his Union County Undersheriff position is a no show job complete with pension, full medical benefits, car and gas. He is also the State Democratic Chair and an Assemblyman who fought tooth and nail true double dipping reform. Can someone please tell me why the citizens of Union County should pay for Joe Cryan to conduct partisan politics on our time? Maybe Joe Cryan Should give up one of his jobs for the constituency that he says he is fighting for in an effort to give someone else a fighting chance? The answer is because he wouldn’t be able to afford to pay the taxes in this state that he helps increase. Maybe Chris Christie should investigate Joe Cryan.

Star Ledger Prohetic: Joe Cryan's empty Dem suit and gestures

Joe Cryan's empty grand gesture

The call by State Democratic Party Chairman Joe Cryan for indicted state senators Sharpe James and Wayne Bryant to resign immediately deserves the top spot on page one of the Guiness Book of Empty Gestures.

Cryan has no political leverage over either of the two and there is no punishment he can inflict upon them or threaten to inflict to move them to comply with his demand.

The episode is one of those rare political opportunities to take a strong public stance with absolutely no downside.

James and Bryant will most certainly ignore Cryan, as he just as certainly knew they would. The chairman's call for their resignations was nothing more than an attempt to establish a public record that Cryan can point to as his commitment to honest government and then shift all the blame to James and Bryant for being obstinate and refusing to leave.

Presumably, Cryan followed established protocol and told both senators privately he was about to go public with his demand. However, it's not known if he or other party leaders tried to convince them privately to step aside. By going public, Cryan guaranteed that any chance of the two senators resigning was a non-starter. They were not about to appear to buckle under pressure.

Both James and Bryant are not seeking re-election, so they are free to remain in office and collect whatever remains on their salaries between now and January, 2008, when both will be replaced by Democrats.

Cryan's timing supports the view that he was motivated by party self-interest alone since no legislative voting sessions are scheduled under after the November election. Where was he, incidentally, when Bryant was indicted back in March and a demand for his resignation at that time would have meant something?

If he feels that strongly about the continued presence of James and Bryant and the corruption issue baggage they bring, why not call on Senate President Dick Codey to schedule a special session and consider expelling the two Senators?

Now, that would be meaningful.

Cryan's Sister, Jon Corzine and Ann Millgram

All Together and Very NJ

Cryan's sister is the boro clerk of Union Twp and all that that entails. Cryan according to many fellow Union Twp friends of ours: directly bosses the police department and bor clerk and he is the under sheriff of Union County, and the assemblyman of union co.

Cryan (along with lesniak) had the power to appoint himself the chief criminal investigator of Neill Cohen and the alleged child porn charges against Cohen...and they also had the authority and power to bury Neill Cohen and the entire matter. Joe Cryan is more important than you ever knew, eh?

No doubt Ann Millgram and Jon Corzine are very proud of Joseph P Cryan's thorough NJ style boss work.

The star ledger recently reported that OLS found porn on cryan's, lesniak's and cohen's legislative office computer last year. And OLS supposedly investigated that matter.

Did OLS find child and or adult only porn last year on cryan, lesniak's and cohen's state legislator computer? We have the right here in Union to fully know all the details!

The OLS investigation last year had zero impact and speaks volumes about the degree of corruption and criminality at work here.

Low and behold, one year later, just one month ago, child porn was supposedly discovered on cryan, lesniak's and cohen's legislative computer.
Cohen took the fall and at the hands of cryan and lesniak who wrote his obituary and took it upon themselves to conduct "an internal criminal investigation of Neill Cohen."

Of course, lesniak and cryan didn't call the police this year "about neill cohen" or last year instead they self assuredly called up their old crony porn investigator friends at OLS.

And NOT the police or FBI. OlS supposedly called
up the hapless but self deprecating attorney general ann millgram who was appointed by jon corzine to be the NJ attorney general.

And it was Jon Corzine who directly appointed Joe Cryan the NJ democratic state party chairman.

Corzine is fully wedded to Cryan. This extremely dark picture gets uglier and more satanic by the minute.
