Karrow announces state senate bid

Assemblywoman Marcia Karrow (R-Flemington)

Assemblywoman Marcia Karrow (R-Flemington) announced this morning that she will run for the state Senate seat in the 23rd Legislative District.

"I have been very effective in the Assembly, even while in the Republican minority. In plain and simple terms, I am running for the this seat because I believe that I can be even more effective in the Senate,” she said in a statement this morning. “My fiscal conservatism and my common-sense approach to problem solving are important skills upon which I have built my political career. Now, more than ever, I believe my ability to build relationships and reach across the aisle to find common ground, while maintaining my core commitment to Republic principles - smaller government and lower taxes -- is critical.”

Karrow’s decision to vie for the seat sets up what will almost certainly be a hotly contested race between her and Assemblyman Michael Doherty (R-Washington Township), a conservative from neighboring Warren County.

The seat is being vacated next month by state Sen. Leonard Lance (R-Flemington), who was just elected to Congress.

Lance’s successor will first be appointed by the county committees, and then have to win a primary in June and reelection in November to fill out the remaining two years of Lance's term.

More Silence

Great now the Republicans can add another almost silent voice to their State Senate list.

Bad move by Karrow

Her career in the legislature will now be over once Doherty beats her for the nomination.

she won't win...unfortunately.

Even if she pulls off a Convention win, she would lose a primary in the deep red 23rd against Crazy Legs Doherty.

Which is unfortunate, given that she is sane and wouldn't embarass the Senate Republicans with long rhetoric driven speeches that are perceived as incoherent yelling rants.

She gets my full support

Sorry Doherty, I don't support Paultards.

I can imagine the Ron Paul crazies who will be in Doherty's corner will pounce all over her. I hope she has the stomach for it because they will be ruthless.

More non-existant opposition

More non-existant opposition for the State GOP. Marcia is a lightweight in Trenton as she doesn't think through most of what she says and Doherty can relate anything and everything to abortion. Keeping either of them in Trenton is a true service to the NJ Democratic Party.

Doherty is No "paultard"

Pauls major flaws come from his foreign policy and national security stances, other than that he is a straight ticket conservative.

As far as I know Doherty never has discussed his foreign policy or national security views.

Poor comparison.

Well

if you want to talk about traditional conservatism, then Ron Paul does embody that...

Remember back to the early 20th century and the foreign policy positions adopted by the GOP...

And remember the mantra of our party: individual liberty and personal responsibility? That is certainly not how the nanny state loving social conservatives have governed. Do you really want the FCC telling you what you can and cannot watch on tv and listen to on the radio?

I know I can do a better job.

Bramnick was right when he said we need to stop being the moral police.

Doherty.

The bottom line is that Mike Doherty has destroyed any and all credibility he had when he threw his support behind Ron Paul. I actually liked him up until that happened. Regardless of foreign policy not being an issue, it's a matter of guilt by association. When you align yourself with fringe anarchists, you're no better than they are.

Mike Doherty clearly has impaired judgement as far as the company he keeps and although that didn't stop Barack Obama from getting elected president, I would prefer it if we drew the line there.
