DENVER - Addressing the New Jersey delegation this morning, former Gov. Jim Florio told his fellow Democrats that they need to brush up on the harder-edged passages of the Hebrew Scriptures to get toned for what’s coming.
"We can’t afford to have this as a New Testament campaign," Florio told the crowd. "This is not turning the other cheek. This has got to be an Old testament campaign."
The way the Republicans demolished John Kerry four years ago, twisting a war hero, in Florio’s words, into a coward, should provide sufficient preview for GOP campaign tactics. But the Democrats have to huddle up and get ready to fight back with the obvious arguments.
"This president has to slither in and out of a foreign country before anyone knows he’s there, because he’s shredded our relations with the world," Florio said of President George W. Bush. "It’s an embarrassment."
Obama will restore American values, and as for Florio’s old pal Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.), "He really is a Jersey guy" said the former governor. "He talks the way we talk."

Put On Your Magic Hats!
You know, it is seared, SEARED in my memory that John Kerry was a serial exaggerator!
The problem John had was that he even made up stories that simply could not have possibly been true, including that President Nixon sent him off to Cambodia on Christmas of '68 . . . weeks before Nixon actually became the President.
The truth was what undid him!
Maybe he should have told the Democrat Convention back then that he was "reporting with doody."
As for Jim Florio, and his canards about others "slithering" . . . here was a guy that openly lied to the people of this New Jersey about the need to raise taxes, and then immediately hammered them with the largest tax increase in the history of the State, right after being sworn in.
Thereafter, he justifiably was sworn at everywhere he went!
So, if, as Florio says of Biden "[h]e talks the way we talk," then we can expect a string of whoppers that could compete with Burger King!
Gee, I wonder whose I.Q. is higher . . . Jim Florio's or Joe Biden's?

What Florio said about himself in Denver?
"It’s an embarrassment."
Washed-up
Why should anyone care about what he has to say? Jim Florio is a washed up politican, who was humilated in 1993, and has done nothing since.

What is with "Hebrew Scriptures?" As an Evangelical, I see both the Old and New Testament as being the "Word of God." As Christians we must study both the Old and the New Testament becsuse the New Testament cannot stand alone. It gets its credibility from the history and fulfillment of prophesies of the Old Testament. Ignoring the Old Testament makes the Bible just a nice story.
If only the Democrats would use the Biblical model to conduct thier own lives and set policy this would be a better country. Instead of killing innocent babies we would be stoning the rapists. Adultry would be a one time event. Marriage would be until death and only between a man and a women. Children would be more disciplined and respectful. We wouldn't have to endure the sight of tatoos or piercings.
If you look closer, you will realize that our problems as a nation are rooted in a lack of Old Testament values. And if you look even closer, these problems can be traced to the Godless Democrat Party.
(The Democrat Party was not always Godless but it is now. If anyone claimes to be a person of faith and maintains their Democrat Party affilation, they are in denial.)
"Study the Constitution, Let it be preached fom the pulpit, proclaimed in the legislatures, and enforced in courts of justice." ~ Abraham Lincoln

All good points, but I have two problems with your wisdom:

(2) I bang my wife whether she's on the rag or not.
I'll stick with heathenism and watch this country eventually recycle into history like other nations before it that became bent on militarism and greed. No skin off my nose - I'm just passin' through on the way to eternal damnation :)

Idol-making, Coveting, Stealing -- Just for Starters!
The incredible thing is that Jim Florio would invoke as a biblical pediment, an Old Testament biblical underpinning as the inspirational "call to arms" for a modern Democrat Party political campaign, including one for Senator Barack Obama to be elected President!
So, a fundamentally religious covenant based on, among other things, a strict prohibition against making one's self an idol, now should underscore "I have become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions" or for "We are the one we've been waiting for" -- the list goes on! It is idol-making at it's worst!
And the Democrat, Jim Florio, who invoked that Old Testament appeal, was really the father of the modern statist approach to State Government here in New Jersey -- ultimate intrusion into, and attempted control over the personal lives of all aspects of it's citizens. Many have left; the rest wait in fear for other shoes to drop.
Florio failed as a Governor because he made a very basic and ham-fisted grab at the contents of everyones' pocketbooks -- a covetous aggregation of financial control and power if there ever was one! But while he ultimately failed in permanently swiping everyone's money, the statism he favored has never surrendered.
The latest iteration of Jim Florio, in the person of Jon Corzine, has simply added fiscal irresponsibility in the extreme to the old Jim Florio formula.
Brazenly refusing to balance the State budget this year, though required to do so by the State's constitution, he has also increased by half again, the crushing indebtedness of the State of New Jersey from $24 billion to around $36 billion, in spite of all of his campaign promises to put our fiscal house in order. The final piece will drop this fall with the "renewal" of the transportation trust Fund.
By doing so, he will force those in the future, many of them 10 - 15 years down the road, to pay that deby at a huge premium, for what he has irresponsibly and unnecessarily undertaken now.
If you aren't a coupon-clipper, you've been hosed!
Young people, many of whom have no current voice in the form of a vote, will then be involuntarily forced to pay for his obscene spending now.
If that is not stealing, then I don't know what is.
