Democratic Candidates Call on Lillian Burry to Release Report

Democratic Candidates Call on Lillian Burry to Release ReportGovernment Transparency Lacking – Peoples’ Trust Violated  OCEAN TOWNSHIP – Democratic candidates for Freeholder Amy Mallet and Glenn Mason called on the Freeholder Director Lillian Burry to release the report about the Monmouth County Youth Detention Center. Mallet and Mason said that there should be no excuse, other than legal, for withholding information from the press and the public.  Ms. Burry says that this report may be months away from being released.  The Democrats are asking why. “The report is complete and the public has a right to review it.  If the Sheriff’s office wants to weigh in a few months from now, so be it.  In the meantime, the public should have access to the information that they paid for right now – not when it is politically convenient for Director Burry,” said Mallet. Unfortunately, this comes as no surprise to the Democrats.  This is not the first time the Republican leadership has played games and withheld information from the public.  For years, it has been like pulling teeth to get the Republican majority to release information about anything that might make them look unpopular, especially in an election year.  We saw the same thing with Malcolm Carton’s report on legal expenses, which was help up for months because of the fear of public scrutiny of its results. “The Republicans are playing the same old game with the people of Monmouth County.  If Operation Bid Rig taught the Republicans anything, it should be that secrets should never be kept by elected officials,” said Mason, “Freeholder Burry should release these documents and bring them up for discussion by the Board immediately.”  # # #
