The Monmouth County Republican Screening Committee voted unanimously tonight to recommend that the county committee vote for Senate candidate Andy Unanue over rivals Joe Pennacchio and Murray Sabrin at its convention tomorrow night.
The screening committee interviewed Unanue over the phone from his vacation spot in Vail, Colo.
“As a strong friend of Presidential nominee John McCain, Andy Unanue will receive the attention from leaders in Washington, and the financial backing needed to overcome the Democrats' negative attack money machine,” said Monmouth County Republican Chairman Adam Puharic in a statement. “Andy Unanue is strong on national defense, calls on secure borders to stem the tide of illegal immigration, and will fight to make the Bush tax cuts permanent.”
Unanue already has the Cape May County party line, as well as the endorsement of the Ocean County Republican Screening Committee.

What
How can you recommend when issues haven't been presented and before a convention...a phone screening none the less??? Thats like trying to find an emotion in an email. Who owes who a favor?
There really isn't a Republician Party in NJ anymore...sad, very sad.
Money
Just write the checks.
I basically expected this to
I basically expected this to happen.
Night club owner?
He is a NIGHTCLUB owner. Has anyone met a nightclub owner that isn't mixed up in illicit sex, drugs or criminal activity?
And fun Andy has 2 DUIs and 1 drug possession conviction. And probably a lot more.
This guy has no chance of beating Frank.
I feel sorry for Andy when he debates Murray.
Doesn't anyone care about intelligence and experience? Most people consider college professors liberals but Murray is a true conservative and is the FRONT RUNNER for the Senate race.
Where's the Beef
Where's your evidence for the DUI and drug conviction? Or did the spirit of Ron Paul fly down and whisper it in your ear?
Yeah Really..
New Jersey isn't South Carolina circa 2000.
You can't just start a whisper campaign and expect what you say to stick unless you have some real proof.
Even if you did, Ellen Karcher tried that campaign against Jen Beck and look what happened there.
Point taken
Point taken but the files should be open to the public...so is the address attached to the donation lists...
Anyone who wants to know should very easily find out what they need to find.
They are
The records on www.opensecrets.org show him to have donated from both NY and NJ.
His Father donated to Republicans for years, and quite a bit of money to Steve Lonegan, GWB, State and national RNC. He comes from a Republican family.
AT&T to the rescue
"Just reach out and Screen some one"
This is taking Long distance love affairs with money a bit too far isnt it?. No wonder the Republicans have can't shed the image of greedy hollow money grabbers.
well
Andy may not live in NJ now but he once did and when people you grow up with get dui's you remember. Nice guy, could maybe be a town council member...maybe...but this is not a serious guy you want as Senator. Maybe one of the other family members or maybe someone from their staff of servants...anybody but Andy.
Selfdestructing GOP
All the money will not help when you select the US candidate based on the following:
being dynamic (see skiing), wants to get involved (see running for the US Senate), without the political baggage (see unknown candidates), must know how to make phone calls (see political donations).
I am sure there is more in the closet that will not be pretty when Democrats will drag it out.
The fact that the guy gets endorsements over the phone is insulting to any Republican.
Wait a minute, I forgot the guy is "a strong friend of Presidential nominee John McCain, Andy Unanue will receive the attention from leaders in Washington, and the financial backing needed to overcome the Democrats' negative attack money machine,” said Monmouth County Republican Chairman Adam Puharic in a statement. “Andy Unanue is strong on national defense, calls on secure borders to stem the tide of illegal immigration, and will fight to make the Bush tax cuts permanent.”
I do not think that after this statement Democrats even need their money machine. It stinks of cronyism my friends to quote our Presidential nominee.
Von Savage et al. must have a hangover of their own this morning
Let's just focus on what the man admits:
- Unanue "admitted he had come to work hung over and drank a lot at company parties."
- His own family ran him out of the job he touts as his main qualification to be United States Senator.
- A non-related company officer rated Andy's leadership skills as "fair to poor."
- And best of all, he was chief operating officer of a company that apparently evaded New Jersey taxes -- even though it's based in Secaucus, the case fell to the jurisdiction of the Delaware Chancery Court.
Monmouth republicans welcome
unanue with open arms and legs. Andy boy will fit right in with the hard drinkers of the monmouth GOP. Top elected republicans in monmouth have had extramarital and illicit escapades that would make McGreevy blush. This is gonna be great.
And I can't even speak to them in person!
"Allegedly" Drunk Andy gets a phone-in screening and recommendation and I call, after already collecting far more than my needed petition signatures, and speak to a "Kathleen" to ask about speaking at tonight's (Wednesday Mar 26) convention and get told that the screening was weeks ago and I'm welcome to come, but can't speak, go figure. I highly doubt that Andy has his petition in order and ready to turn in, and he's already recommended and gets a phone call screening. I suppose since I don't "pay to play" in the party of "allegedly" drunk Monmouth County Republicans who "allegedly" are engaged in some corrupt, or at least immoral, activities, I don't deserve even the opportunity to speak to county republicans. Oh well, at least I've found a few hundred voters already who like the message and are interested in voting for someone who doesn't have a criminal history, or any "political debt", and I've got a few months to reach thousands more.

"allegedly"
Declan O'Scanlon has a clan of illegitimate offspring, Jenn Beck has the DUIs, and photos are circulating of Sean Kean to "prove" their misdeeds. And Senator Beck lobbied on Unanue's behalf due to her soft spot for barkeepers. The monmouth chairman deserves some credit for keeping a lid on his local scandals but giving the "I wasn't drunk, I was hungover" millionare playboy a pass is beyond the pale for scandal weary NJeyans.
